LaurenceD SUBS 14th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumSmall Faces - Small Faces (1969) | Note that the track listings for this entry are correct as far as the actual playing order on the disc. The listings for B2 and B5 are incorrectly transposed on the cover and label.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 14th May 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumAndre Kostelanetz With Johnny Cash - The Lure Of The Grand Canyon (1961) | The sound effects, which were recorded at the Grand Canyon, do not really intrude upon the integrity of the suite, but are inserted between movements and then repeated during Johnny Cash's narrated track.
Not a bad rendition of Grofé's suite; I'd like to hear a stereo copy.

LaurenceD SUBS 8th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumGeorges Delerue - Promise At Dawn (1971) | Track B9 vocals by Melina Mercouri.
Track A8 vocals by an unidentified female/male duo.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Mar 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumEd McCurdy - A Ballad Singer's Choice (1956) | The label incorrectly lists track A7 as "A Great Big Sea Hove In Long Branch".
|
LaurenceD SUBS 25th Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnnie Pate Trio Plus Three - Jazz Goes Ivy League (1958) | I have seen mono and stereo copies of the Federal pressing of this LP, but only mono for the King as far as I can determine.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - With Love (1977) | This is a reissue of the original LP that was released in 1976 on the Universal Spiritual League label. Some more info about the Meher Baba LPs can be found here.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Jan 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Simon - The Paul Simon Song Book (1965) | Added labels which differ slightly around the ℗ 1965. My cover is the same as that of Ade Macrow, but it's probably not a very early pressing. It has the same "Sounds of the 70s" inner sleeve as the one shown here with the Bridge Over Troubled Water LP.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jan 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumBee Gees - Gotta Get A Message To You (1974) | Two tracks on this collection warrant a mention:
- "One Million Years" is a stereo remix with a different lead vocal track.
- "It Doesn't Matter Much To Me" is not the B-side recording, but a different version that was intended for the Kick In The Head LP.
More info here.

LaurenceD SUBS 7th Jan 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumRoy Drusky - Songs Of The Cities (1964) | I believe that's a Gretsch G400 Synchromatic he's holding there.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumCal Tjader, Mary Stallings - Cal Tjader (1962) | There's only one composer credit (B6) and it's misspelled. "Mr. Blues" is by Costell Akrie.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumSam Hinton - The Wandering Folksong (1967) | Mono recording.
The listing on the back cover has tracks B8 and B9 in reverse order. The enclosed booklet has them in the correct order.
I'm not sure about the release date. Both http://folkways.si.edu and http://samhinton.org list this as a 1966 release. But the back cover shows © 1967 ...
|
LaurenceD SUBS 18th Oct 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Atco Sales Meeting (1970) | All of the tracks are selections from the listed albums except for the one by Iron Butterfly, which is not from their "Live" LP (SD 33-318), but is instead a stereo mix of the A-side from the subsequently released single.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 18th Oct 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Original Soundtrack Recording Of Catch My Soul (1973) | HIDEKI WATANABE, I merged your entry of this LP with the earlier one submitted by Twistin, added the missing tracks, and kept all of your images.

LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Anthology Of British Blues Volume 2 (1969) | Here you are ppint., although I may have to zoom in even further to make that text fully readable.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 27th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Roadie (1980) | This distillation of the 16-track release was obviously trying to de-emphasize the country aspect of the soundtrack, omitting tracks by Joe Ely, Eddie Rabbitt, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams Jr. and Asleep At The Wheel.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Aug 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Alley Singers - Phil Stern And Al Brennan (1958) | Not sure who Phil Stern And Al Brennan are, but the two perpetrators on this record are Freddy Morgan and Paul "Mousie" Garner.

LaurenceD SUBS 9th Jul 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - Alive And Alone | The correct title for track B2 is For The Turnstiles.
Neil is not quite 'alone' for the Jones Beach performance. Aside from Springsteen's participation on track D2, he is joined by Ben Keith (starting on B2) and Frank Sampedro (starting on B4).

LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jun 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPope Paul VI - First Visit To The Americas (1965) | Full title on cover: United Press International Presents Pope Paul VI First Visit To The Americas
Full title on labels (my copy): Los Angeles Herald-Examiner Presents "The Day With Pope Paul VI In The United States"
I have seen at least two other label variants:
- similar green labels with "Springfied News Presents ..."
- standard Blue Amy labels with "United Press International Presents ..."
There were three competing releases that I'm aware of, apparently released on the same day:
- Columbia XX2: "His Holiness Pope Paul VI Mission To America, October 4, 1965"
- MGM E-433-D: "An Historic Occasion Pope Paul VI Visits New York City October 4, 1965"
- Audio Fidelity AFLP 2152: Pope Paul In America"

LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Jun 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Pepper-Knepper Quintet - The Pepper-Knepper Quintet With Pepper Adams And Jimmy Knepper (1959) | Note that the cover shows the mono catalog number (E1004) while the labels show the stereo number (SE1004).
|
LaurenceD SUBS 26th Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumLenny Bruce - Interviews Of Our Times (1958) | Tracks A4 and B5 predate this LP by a few years, and as far as I know do not feature Lenny Bruce. More info here.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDinah Washington - Music For Late Hours (1956) | A collection of tracks from previously released singles (the liner notes do not mention this). The earliest track, "I Can't Get Started With You" is from 1946 (Mercury 2052); the latest "Until Sunrise" from 1954 (Mercury 70336). The rest are from 1950-51.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Jul 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Original Recordings By The Artists Who Made These Hits! (1964) | Sorry about the tattered cover, feel free to submit better scans.
I'm not certain as to when this was released. The Billboard review suggests late 1964, so I went with that. And I would think that this LP was mainly intended to capitalize on the two Kingsmen releases (Louie Louie in 1963, Death of an Angel in 1964), but I wouldn't have thought that Flip was still pressing records at that late date.

LaurenceD SUBS 31st May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHomer And Jethro - Wanted For Murder (1966) | Great Men Repeat Themselves:
[YouTube Video]
|
LaurenceD SUBS 10th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHomer And Jethro - The Far-Out World Of Homer And Jethro (1972) | I think that this was the final Homer and Jethro release on RCA Victor. Henry D. "Homer" Haynes had passed away on Aug 7, 1971. Jethro gives a nice summary of their career in the liner notes.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 10th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHomer And Jethro - Any News From Nashville? (1966) | I just noticed that on every one of these Jack Davis covers, for whatever reason, H&J's eyeballs are painted red.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 10th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHomer And Jethro - Homer And Jethro Go West (1964) | I'm unsure about the release date of this one - the cat# (and praguefrank) suggest around March-May 1963, but the earliest mention of it that I can find is March 1964 (Billboard).
