LaurenceD SUBS 29th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVic Lewis And His Orchestra - Donovan My Way (1968) | Released the same week as the Hurdy Gurdy Man LP (BN 26420).
I suspect that mono promo versions may exist for this release, but I have yet to see one.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 27th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBuddy Meredith - Sing Me A Heart Song (1963) | I believe that this was a mono-only release.
Buddy was also a DJ at KRSD, Rapid City, South Dakota.

LaurenceD SUBS 13th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Young Man From Boston (1965) | The song titles are not given, and I was unable to track them down, so here is a summary of the musical content with my guesses at the performers & titles:
- opening: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir: The Kennedy Years
- The Kingston Trio: A Son Of The Here And Now
- Gordon MacRae with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir: There Was A Man
- closing: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir: The Kennedy Years

LaurenceD SUBS 13th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - I Can Get It For You Wholesale (1962) | I listed the participating cast members for each track, mainly so a search for Streisand will return this item. The listings of participants per track varies a bit between the sleeve and the labels, so I went with the labels, as they were supposedly more up-to-date when this LP was assembled.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Military Marches Of Sweden (1959) | A couple of composer name discrepancies between the cover and labels -
A5: E. Franks or E. Franke
A6: C. Treiks or C. Teiks
I'm not sure which ones are correct, as I am quite unfamiliar with these composers.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jun 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLes Baxter - Space Escapade (1958) | Album covers don't get much better than this!
|
LaurenceD SUBS 13th May 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumRichie Havens - Electric Havens (1968) | These are pre-Verve demo recordings of Richie accompanying himself on guitar, subsequently overdubbed with various instruments by Alan Douglas. The original demos seem to be mono recordings, and the overdubs are in stereo. Rather frustrating to listen to, as Richie's renditions are quite good, at least from what I can make out underneath all that racket. To make matters worse, the musicians on the overdubs occasionally get noticeably out of sync with the original tape.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 13th May 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Harptones [Gospel] - The Sounds Of The Harptones (1973) | I differentiated these guys from the other Harptones, as this is a gospel group from Cincinnati.
The Rite label used this cover design for releases by various artists, as can be seen here.
I would estimate that this LP was released c.1972-73.

LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Apr 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBurl Ives - The Wayfaring Stranger (1949) | Not to be confused with the 1950 Columbia LP with the same title (CL 6109)
Previous 78 rpm album releases (6 sides, absent "The Fox" and "Brennan On The Moor"):
- 1944: Asch 345
- 1946: Stinson 345
(Note that "Henry Martin" is spelled "Henry Marlyn" on the label)

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Feb 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Four Roses Society - Sing With The Four Roses Society (1959) | Someone had to add this... ;-)
The RCA matrix numbers would seem to indicate a 1959 release, if the same dating guide can be used for LPs as well as 45s.
This record sold for one dollar, and the first mention of it that I could find in Billboard was March 21, 1960, which was sometime after the fact. As far as I can determine, it was pressed only in mono format.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Feb 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMichael Fennelly - Lane Changer (1974) | Fennelly has stated in interviews that these (uncredited) musicians also contributed:
- Casey Foutz: keyboards, including Moog on Dark Night
- Jeff Beck: lead guitar on Watch Yerself

LaurenceD SUBS 26th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBob And Ray - The Two And Only (1970) | I never get tired of this one, Slow Talker:

|
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumFlorence Foster Jenkins - A Florence! Foster!! Jenkins!!! Recital!!!! (1954) | From the (somewhat disdainful) Billboard review: "Listening to her pathetic bleating of standard colorature arias is something like eavesdropping on a padded cell inmate."
Sounds like my kind of music!
|
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMetronome All-Stars - Metronome All-Stars (1957) | The labels that I uploaded are from a polystyrene pressing.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Home Grown '84 (1983) | This is the last edition in the KGB series of Home Grown LPs.
The Beat Farmers' You Lost A Gold Mine is the same song as Goldmine on the Tales Of The New West LP, but this is a different recording.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Home Grown (1973) | This is the first of the KGB "Home Grown" compilations, featuring local artists performing songs about the San Diego area. I think that copies sold for $1.01 with the proceeds going to charity. These LPs sold pretty well, and as a result they can be found in nearly every budget bin in the county. You can read a bit more about the Home Grown series here.
Runout info: KGB <A> RE-1 2S112073AP WB / KGB <B> RE-1 2S112073AP WB
Note that the recording of Chula Vista originally appeared on a single (Highland CW-10) credited to Possum, coupled with "The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati". I'm still looking for one of those!
|
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBurt Bacharach - Songs From Ross Hunter's Production Of "Lost Horizon" (1972) | I compared this with the Bell LP, and it sounds to me like the same recordings. Note that song #11 in the booklet (Reprise for "If I Could Go Back") is not included on the LP, and it was cut from the film as well. Also, there is a printed letter from Ross Hunter that came with some copies.
There are no artists credits listed, but I will dig around and see if I can add them in the comments. Some actors sang their own songs, and others had the songs dubbed for them.
Wondering if I should post the lyrics from the booklet; there are 18 pages in all.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Dec 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumOhio Express - Chewy, Chewy (1968) | As The Ohio Express on back cover.
Other differences:
A1, A3, A5, B2, B3, B4, B6 composer: label: J. Levine, K. Resnick / cover: J. Levine, A. Resnick
B1 composer: label: J. Levine / cover: J. Levine, A. Resnick
B6: label: Down Tennessee / cover: Down In Tennessee

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Dec 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRoy Orbison - Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson (1967) | On the cover, track A1 is listed as (I'd Be) A Legend In Time.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Nov 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumHansson & Karlsson - Monument (1967) | I designated this as a stereo LP because there seems to have been a small number of monaural copies issued as well, though I would like to get a better look at one to be sure.
|
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Nov 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumGeorges Auric - Bonjour Tristesse (1958) | There are six separate tracks on each side, but no track titles are given on the labels or cover.
In addition to the Bonjour Tristesse song on side one, Juliette Greco sings briefly near the end of the final theme.
