PhilMH SUBS 8th Jan 2025		Vinyl Album Uriah Heep - ...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble (1972)	Yes, quite possible/probable, but we'll probably never know for sure unless someone can turn up a release sheet, or get access to Universal Music NZ's files. All that can be said at the moment is that the Phonogram Ltd. name makes it no earlier than 9 November 1972.

LIMITED (from 14 May 1963 to 25 Jun 1970) INTERNATIONAL PHONOGRAPHIC SOCIETY N.Z LIMITED (from 11 Dec 1961 to 14 May 1963) Last updated on 03 Nov 2013 It's possible, indeed probable, that some of those "1972" NZ issues in Discogs showing Phonogram Limited fall into one of these possible categories: (1) Represses/reprints of albums that were originally issued by the 1970-1972 iteration of PolyGram Records Limited; (2) the usual discographical headache of assuming that the phonographic copyright (P) year is the release year - not necessarily the case, as that (P) year is set in the country where the recording is first issued, and other countries might issue it later, and also that (P) year should not change on represses and reissues.
PhilMH SUBS 4th Jan 2025		Vinyl Album Uriah Heep - ...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble (1972)	Probably a bit later than September 1972 - Discogs tells me that the Phonogram Ltd. company name was active in New Zealand from 9 November 1972 to 31 October 1978, before that the NZ company name was PolyGram Records Limited, which most likely explains the PolyGram reference on the labels, in that older label stock was still being used. Discogs doesn't have a date for this version of the LP.
PhilMH SUBS 3rd Jan 2025		Vinyl Album Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II (1992)	Hi Whassup, I don't think this release is just for Germany, as shown by the price code for France, and the Discogs entry, which says Europe, shows that it has the additional catalogue number WX 2002, which was for UK use. There doesn't appear to have been an LP release in Australia (only CD & cassette), so there's not enough information to make this International, but Europe-wide would be a fairly safe bet at the moment.
PhilMH SUBS 25th Nov 2024		Vinyl Album The Stooges - Fun House (1971)	Agreed, Lee - another reason why this is not 1977 is because the company name WEA Records Pty. Limited started appearing on covers and labels in 1973, and the labels here don't have that; I think the cover here is actually from a later French issue, as it looks like it has the French company name WEA Fillipacchi Music, with the Saul Bass designed [W] Warner Communications logo which came into use in1974, plus the European catalogue number 42 055 in the top right, so definitely a mismatch of cover and record.

By the same token, the sleeve notes refer to Davis Ruffin rather than "David" - again, his real name.

PhilMH SUBS 2nd Nov 2024		Vinyl Album Sandy Denny - Gold Dust (2022)	If this was for Record Store Day, then it was probably a worldwide release; "Made in EU" does not necessarily equate to released only in the EU or Europe. Discogs has it has Europe, but the cover images there aren't large enough or clear enough to tell whether the telltale text "Universal International Music B.V." appears, that would be a strong indicator that it is worldwide or near-worldwide, as that company manages the international domestic release of Universal products.

PhilMH SUBS 1st Oct 2024		Vinyl Album Simon And Garfunkel - The Graduate (Original Soundtrack) (1983)	I think the confusion over the title came about because the original album issued after the hit was titled "Sounds Of Silence" - the plural used because it was a collection of songs, or sounds. Ever since then, people have assumed that album title to be the song's title as well.

Release month was September, according to Decca's catalogues.

WL 72121 and show a barcode; this entry is for the 1975 German issue distributed by EMI, and has no barcode, because there were no barcodes on records or tapes in 1975, so these 1984 images should be removed. mod edit: hidden
PhilMH SUBS 14th Sep 2024		Vinyl Album Neil Young - After The Gold Rush (1970)	I just thought I'd check the matrix numbers on the Aussie Reprise and Warner Bros. singles, and wouldn't you know it, but James Taylor's "Fire And Rain" single from October 1970 has the two matrices immediately before this record, so it looks like both records were mastered at the same time, and very probably released around the same time too, though looking in newspapers.com just now (which I didn't know about in 2016), the earliest review on offer is in The Sydney Morning Herald on 29th November; my past experience of the Herald is that some of their reviews were a few weeks after release. Anyway, at least we know it's definitely late 1970.

PhilMH SUBS 2nd Sep 2024		Vinyl Album Blondie - Parallel Lines (1978)	Yeah, bootleg doesn't sit comfortably with me either, as they were pressed on the official licensee's premises (and I suspect that a bit of a** covering was going on - how did the employee(s) manage to press several copies on two different colours if Festival didn't already have stocks of coloured vinyl pellets? I can't think of any other coloured vinyl releases from Festival in this period, but please educate me if necessary). Rather than deleting the images, or moving them to another entry, just hide them.

PhilMH SUBS 27th Aug 2024		Vinyl Album Joe Walsh - You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind (1979)	1979 release, not 1976, because 1976 releases were on ABC Records, which MCA purchased in early 1979, and as German distribution of MCA moved to Ariola as of 1 January 1980, 1979 is the only year that this Metronome-distributed MCA version could have been issued. Plus, it looks like the original German release on ABC (distributed by Ariola, as it happens) was in 1977 anyway, and it is linked below. Mod Edit: Date fixed.
