ppint. ● 15th Mar 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumAlan Stivell - From Celtic Roots (1973) | the french release of this superb lp was widely-distributed in the uk-of-gb(? &-ni?), probably because of sales far exceeding the uk record company's (or uk label manager's?) expectations.
interest in - and sales of - alan stivell's first uk lp, ''renaissance of the celtic harp'', which had been respectable (if unexciting) were also rekindled, and some french copies of this, too, were imported & distributed by philips uk; and sales of both wooden celtic harps and even the crwth (sp?) in the yuk-of-gb-&-ni - and possibly also in the republic - shot up; the acoustically-amplified celtic harp sales in london, york & newcastle-upon-tyne° went up ten-fold - though yr hmbl srppnt.'s no idea how many were still being learned and played six months later...
° - i don't know about other cities & large towns; these were three of the four cities whose music shops yr hmbl srppnt. visited at this time; in t'other, durham, the two main record shops were not general music shops selling musical instruments

at least some of this double album used lps bearing labels strongly suggesting they'd been pressed as re-stocks of the (full-price) single albums: it's not impossible the two single albums remained available after this ''complete mr fox'' double album was released, and for quite some time thereafter.

- mighty empires may totter and fall in consequence - but none have as yet been reported as having done so in the intervening half century.

ppint. ● 19th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumLove - Forever Changes (2015) | i think you have the right of it, lady lee: where a small record company run by someone who has clearly escaped from - or perhaps into - or even very carefully, deliberately established - an asylsum for the musically insane, it is only reasonable for us here to respect their inspiration as best we can, whilst preserving the discographic usefulness of lpcat (etc.) to presumed innocent outsiders - and even lpcatters, where this presumption may well be on somewhat shakier ground - attempting to look up releases by particular artists (or even just browsing in the manner of collectors of windblown knittable fibre), by grouping variant releases of the same set of tracks as closely together as possible - so long as the record company doesn't make a clear, consistent and easily-observed distinction by awarding them different catalogue numbers or, in the post-catalogue numbers era, different bar-code numbers.
(- or, should you so prefer, ''i agree.'')

ppint. ● 18th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumLove - Forever Changes (2015) | lee wrecker: when there are multiple colo(u)r variants with the same cat#, how does the musicorpse distinguish between and keep track of them: by some variation in the bar-code number - or does it appear that they don't bother to?
- if the musicorpse involved uses variations in the bar code number, then we can follow their lead;
- if the musicorpse involved warehouses and distributes them as being functionally identical, it'd seem like trying to be ''more royal than the king'' for us to assign the different colour variants different numbers they do not in fact bear - as well as liable to confuse the hell out of any and every one who isn't the person who invents the numbers...

ppint. ● 17th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumNana Mouskouri - British Concert (1972) | hi, robozuc it's an abbreviated allusion to a formal way of ending a letter, now little used; and also to a time i spent working in the official solicitor's department in chancery lane, london - and also to a science fiction story... (longer, possibly too long, explanation by msg.)
(and don't be too quick to put yourself down re obscure english habits and - former - customs: very few english people would likely have the faintest idea what you meant, were you to start extolling the virtues of e.g. barolo....)

ppint. ● 2nd Nov 2021 |  | Vinyl AlbumTrees - On The Shore (1970) | #gian_paolo: good grief! - <fx: rhetorical> ''why ?'' - </fx>
- well, that is actually slightly more sensible than shuffling around the lp's contents would've been, which would've taken creating completely new metal masters etc, for pressing the .nl lp, and cost ££/fl.fl.fl.fl...
(i've met swapping the entire first and second sides for one another before, a couple of times - the first spooky tooth album comes to mind, where it actually made some kind of sense to play the album from the relatively weak start through to the strongest conclusion: but that cost naught extra...)

ppint. ● 29th Oct 2021 |  | Vinyl AlbumTrees - On The Shore (1970) | track a4 composer is mis-spelled as well as incorrect: it should have been "a. (for "adam") de la halle";
he was mis-given as "a. della halle" on the original uk album, and was here further transmogrified into
"a. della halls"; the title has also been "improved", from "adam's toon" to "adams tune";
track a5's composer's surname was corrected to "tawney" from the ''tawny'' of the original uk album;
track b1 title is tyopped "rool" on the label: as this is not a literal, just a simple error, is it not ok to leave the listing as was doubtless intended - ?
n.b. the track running order on the labels differs significantly from that of the original uk album.

ppint. ● 24th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumTír na nÓg - Tír na nÓg (1971) | gian_paolo yes; another indicator is the phrase, ''manufactured and distributed by island records ltd. (etc.)'' being dropped from the penultimate back cover line; chrysalis records' sales had met the targets chris blackwell had set them, and they'd just become a fully independent record/music company um, ''free and above board'' or a similar phrase iirc; they retained good relations with his island group, and continued to use some of its services for quite a while longer, but this was now by chrysalis' free choice, separately negotiated, rather than part of the initial start-up package agreed with chris blackwell.

ppint. ● 13th Oct 2021 |  | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Underground No 2 Super Groups | the composer credit for track a1 is incorrect on both page and cover: it should be credited to "r. d. davies", or to "r. davies", or to ray davies, or even just to "davies" - but it ain't;
- and the composer credit for track b3 should likewise be to "t. boshell" on both - but isn't, neither.
|
ppint. ● 12th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFlock - Inside Out (1975) | all the other albums (lps) by the flock are credited to ''the flock'', q.v.
it would be a good idea™ to alias ''flock'' and ''the flock'' to one another, or to unify them all under the name, ''the flock'' -
- wouldn't it?
edit: and lo! semi-divine intervention ensued eftsoons!
mod edit: It would and it was done.
edit: it has also had the happy (?side-?) effect of advising anylpcatbrowser tapping/clicking on ''flock'' in the artists credits of ''fill your head with rock'' and of "rock buster", and of "underground no. 2 super groups", that the full listing of the group's lps is linked to under ''the flock'': ''excellent.''
