SeverlyWarpedRecord 28th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumTen Years After - A Space In Time (1971) | My Grandpa said that he couldn’t find any records by this band back in the late 60s and 70s despite really wanting one, so this was definitely a surprise when I found it at the Salvation Army for $2.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 22nd Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumAndré Gagnon - Le Saint-Laurent (1977) | Yeah but it seems like it can’t decide whether it wants to be Classical music or Disco.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert And The Tijuana Brass - The Lonely Bull (1962) | I finally found this after months of looking. The A&M reissue is common but a copy on Quality is hard to find.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 10th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumAndré Gagnon - Le Saint-Laurent (1977) | Even after reading this entry, I’m still confused as to what this record is supposed to be
SeverlyWarpedRecord 10th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Smothers Brothers - Mom Always Liked You Best (1965) | I don’t think I’ve ever heard an album like this. It’s a comedy album and an album with beautiful folk music. Very glad I found this in a lot I was given.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 17th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Kingsmen - The Kingsmen On Campus (1965) | Why do certain Quality albums have a hole drilled in them? My copy of this album has a drill mark like the one in the images and I have a few others albums made by Quality with the same drill mark. I’ve heard that stores used to do this to Half priced records, but I don’t see them on records from the same periods by artists like Herb Alpert or Harry Belafonte.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Revere And The Raiders - In The Beginning (1966) | I have the cover to this record, but for some reason it’s American, so I only added the labels.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBobby Rydell - Forget Him (1964) | I believe the M. Anthony in the song writers credit is Dick Clark.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 10th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Platters - Remember When? (1959) | What’s up with the ‘Made in Canada by Columbia Records LTD.’ line all about? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that on any other Mercury albums and certainly not any 45s.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley With The Jordanaires - Blue Hawaii (1961) | Added my copy. Sadly, it is a later pressing from the 1970s.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBuddy Knox - Buddy Knox (1957) | This album is not a reissue, it is just a second pressing from around 1960/1961 when Roulette started to distribute there own records in Canada.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmie Rodgers - Sings Folk Songs (1958) | The factory must have been using the same covers from the 1950s in the 60s because my later pressing has a mono cover with a sticker slapped on the front that says ‘Stereo’.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 29th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe McCoys - Hang On Sloopy (1965) | Passed by this record 3 weeks in a row at the Salvation Army thinking it was a children’s record, until I realized it said ‘The McCoys’ on the cover. Great album, very glad I got it.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 22nd May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert And The Tijuana Brass - The Lonely Bull (1967) | Believe it or not, but the original issue of this album on Quality is rare. I’ve been searching for months now and all I can find is this later pressing on A&M.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 17th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Crewe - Kicks (1960) | I was expecting this to be like The Four Seasons but it is really a big band record. It appears to also be quite uncommon.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 14th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert And The Tijuana Brass - Going Places (1967) | Sorry for poor images, the plastic on the record was giving off a reflection.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 26th Mar 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCab Calloway - Hi De Ho Man: Cab Calloway Classics (1974) | I don’t have this album, but listening on Spotify it sounds like there is an echo in the songs. Is the echo added for this album or are these re-recordings from the 1970s?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 14th Mar 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Revere And The Raiders - Here They Come! (1965) | Is this album recorded live? It sounds like it, but it doesn’t say anything on the back.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 7th Mar 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMarilu Con La Orquesta De Alfredo Nuñez De Borbon - Exitos Eternos | Are records of this vintage rare in Mexico? I have only been there once, and they did not have any second hand stores or anywhere that would sell records.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 24th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Man With The Horn, Trumpet Solos By Famous Jazzmen (1950) | This album cost $2.85 Canadian back in 1950.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 23rd Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Tremeloes - Even The Bad Times Are Good / Silence Is Golden (1967) | Are these the same guys who were signed to Decca instead of the Beatles?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 11th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Mills Brothers - Fortuosity (1968) | ‘Cab Driver’ was The Mills Brothers last top 40 hit. It does not appear in RPM, but it was #10 on CHUM for 2 weeks in March of 1968.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJoey Dee And The Starliters - Doin' The Twist At The Peppermint Lounge (1961) | I have added images of the cover. I am unsure is this is in stereo or not because the front says ‘Roulette Full Dimensional Sound’ and there is no other comments on the label or the back about the recording technique.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumOllie Strong And Kenny Hepburn - Sleepwalk (1960) | I believe my copy is a later issue from around 1960-1962 because there is an advertisement for a Twist record on the back.
It seems that pop records on this label are quite uncommon. I know they made pop 45s that charted, but the only pop albums I have seen is this album. Online I have seen copies of Twangy Guitar by Kenny Hepburn, The Black Plague and 16 Poor Little Fools by Terry Black, but it seems that anything that is not a polka or a sound-alike record on this label is quite uncommon.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert's Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream And Other Delights (1965) | So if the copies on A&M are from 1967, than are they reissues or just later pressings?
I will also upload a B side photo to the new entry.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert's Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream And Other Delights (1965) | I guess there is a rare version of this album after all...
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumHerb Alpert's Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream And Other Delights (1965) | My copy is on A&M, and I have uploaded it here. I do not believe this was ever issued on the straight Quality label, because all the copies I have seen are on A&M and made by Quality.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? (1967) | A favourite from my Grandpas collection. I believe my copy is a later pressing, from 1969 or 1970.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFrankie Laine - Hell Bent For Leather (1961) | The songs High Noon, The Cry of The Wild Goose, Rawhide, and Mule Train are re-recording of previous hit records by Laine. This version of ‘Rawhide’ is a tamed down version of the song and not the hit recording featured in the TV show. For the original hit version of Rawhide and the version that appears on the show see here and here.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFrankie Laine - Deuces Wild (1962) | This album features a re-recording of the song ‘Moonlight Gambler’, original hit version can be found Here
and Here.
