Bobby Short was a prosperous cabaret singer and pianist who was had performed mainly in Chicago and in New York City. Even though Mr. Short had composed none of the tunes of this disc of 33.33 rpm, he was best known for his interpretations of songs of popular composers, such as Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Richard Whiting and the Gershwin brothers.

Many years after Mr. Short had begun his musical career in the 1940s, he was offered a two-wee trial at the Cafe Carlyle in New York City in 1968 to substitute for George Freyer. Afterward, Mr. Short became an important icon and remained a featured performer at the Cafe Carlyle shortly before his death.
For over twenty years, all of Mr. Short's recordings were done at the Atlantic Recording Studios until he secured a contract at the Telarc recording studios.

Finally this was the third Atlantic disc of 33.33 rpm that was originally issued by means of white characters of a black label background.
