Paul Barbarin, who recieved drum training from renowned drummer Louis Cottrell, was a New Orleans jazz drummer of the pre-Big Band era of such drummers. From the latter part of the 1910 decade, Mr. Barbarin toured with various jazz bands and spent similar amounts of times playing with jazz bands in Chicago, New York and New Orleans.

Even though Mr. Barbarin had usually conducted his own band from the second half of the twentieth century, he and Louis Cottrell, Jr. had established and directed the second incarnation of the Onward Brass Band from 1960 thru 1969.

Mr. Barbarin had composed numerous Dixieland standard tunes, such as Come Back Sweet Papa, Don't Forget To Mess Around (When You're Doing The Charleston) and Bourbon Street Parade. Despite Mr. Barbarin's tremendous amount of energy that he used to play the drums, he sadly passed away the 17 February 1969 while he played snare drums with the Onward Brass Band during a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade.
