Though Lee Konitz had prosperously performed in various ranges of jazz styles, his association with the cool jazz movement of the 1940s and 1950s had included his participation in the Birth Of The Cool sessions of Miles Davis and his work with Leonardo (Lennie) Tristano.

Mr. Konitz had regretted that he refused a special occasion to do jazz work with Benny Goodman in 1949. Despite the fact that some of the caucasin and black jazz musicians of the Miles Davis group were angered with one another, Mr. Charlie Parker had given Konitz much support when Konitz was unable to get to Seattle from New York City to see the birth of his child.

Warne Marsh, who was a tenor saxophonist who was tutored by Lennie Tristano. Additionally, both Mr. Marsh and Mr. Konitz had become pre-eminent saxophonits of the "Cool School" of jazz musicians. Even though this was the only disc of 33.33 rpm that Mr. Konitz had recorded with Mr. Marsh, music critics, such as John Fordham and Scott Yanow had stated that the combination of Konitz and Marsh jazz playing had such dazzling melodic ingenuity that these musicians were made to be a team to professionally play various types of jazz music.
