George Wein is an American producer and jazz promoter who was called the most famous impresario of jazz history. Mr Wein, who had established the Newport Jazz Festival in 1954, had also established the Newport Folk Festival with Pete Seeger and Theodore Bikel in 1959.

Though Mr. Wein was a jazz pianist from an early age, he conducted a small jazz group that had professionally performed in the Boston area while Mr. Wein attended Boston University. After Mr. Wein had finished Boston University, he opened the Storyville jazz club and established the Storyville record label.

Mr. Wein had founded the idea that corporations help fund his jazz events, such as the Schlitz Salute to Jazz and the Kool Jazz festival. These were the first two jazz events that had featured the title sponsors of Schlitz beer and Kool cigarettes.

Due to the fact that Mr. Wein has received many honors for his work with jazz concerts, he had earned honorary degrees from the Berklee College of Music and Rhode Island College of Music, and became a lifetime Honorary Trustee of Carnegie Hall.
