Notes

Jess Stacy was an American jazz pianist who had recieved his formal music training under professor Clyde Brandt in Cape Girardeau, MO. In the 1920's, Mr. Stacy had played piano in Peg Meyer's Melody Kings at Cape Girardeau secondary school, the Bluebird Confectionary and the Sweet Shop in Cape Girardeau. Afterward, Mr. Stacy began to tour with this band in various riverboats that traveled the Mississippi River.

When Mr. Stacy had relocated to Chicago, he became noticed when he played Chicago-style jazz with Paul Mares. However, Mr. Stacy played more frequently with the band of his role model, Earl Hines as a "relief piano player" at the Grand Terrace Cafe.

In 1935, Mr. Stacy earned his big break when Benny Goodman had asked Stacy to join his band. Finally, Jess Stacy had become best known for his performance with the Benny Goodman band at the Carnegie Hall Concert in 1938.
