Notes

Guglielmo Giuseppe “Bill” Russo was a jazz musician who had started the Chicago Jazz Ensemble at Columbia College Chicago, the Chicago Free Theater, and was the director of High School Jazz Festival. After Mr. Russo had finished piano training with Leonardo Tristano, he had composed many scores for the Stan Kenton Orchestra. One of the most famous scores of Mr. Russo was the “Halls Of Brass”, which was specially written for the brass section due to the fact that no woodwind nor percussion music of this score could be commercially played.

After Mr. Russo had quit playing for the Stan Kenton Band in 1954, he continued to privately write tunes for the next four years. During this period, Mr. Russo had composed an album that consisted of an opera of ballet tunes in a jazz style, which was one of the earliest storyline operas that had been composed. In fact, the tune The World Of Alcina is the only tune of the a-side of this disc of 33.33 rpm due to the fact that this tune lasts more than eighteen minutes. When Mr. Russo had returned to publicly perform in 1958, he had relocated to New York City where he had founded and conducted his twenty-two piece Bill Russo Orchestra.
