Notes

Despite the fact that Al Hibbler was blind from birth, he was a rhythm and blues singer who performed with the Duke Ellington band before he became a successful popular singer. The first time that Mr. Hibbler auditioned for the band of Mr. Duke, Mr. Hibbler had failed, but when he won an amateur talent contest, he had joined and played in the Dub Jenkins and the Playmates band.

After Herb Jeffries had departed from the Ellington band, Mr. Hibbler became a member who remained in this band for eight years. The lyrics of one Ellington standard, which was Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me, were precisely composed for Mr. Hibbler. Accordingly, this tune had successfully peaked at position # 6 of the Billboard hit parade of discs of 78 rpm, and had reached the number one position of the Harlem Hit Parade.

When Mr. Hibbler became a solo artist, he recorded at various record label studios, but when Mr. Hibbler was started to record at Decca records, he had two major successful tunes, which were Unchained Melody and a re-recording of After The Lights Go Down Low. Even though this was the only Al Hibbler disc of 33.33 rpm that Atlantic records had issued, this disc contained the original recording of After The Lights Go Down Low.
