John Lewis was a jazz pianist, who had established and directed the Modern Jazz Quartet, who not only learned to play the piano at an early age, but also had a family who played together so frequently that Mr. Lewis was one of the few pianists who played in a boy scout musical group.

When Mr. Lewis had relocated to New York to have an occasion to become a member of the Dizzy Gillespie band, he had given the band a self-penned tune called Bright Lights. Afterward, this band had changed this tune name to “Two Bass Hit” which became an instant prosperity.

After Mr. Lewis had gained proficient experience playing with the professional band of Dizzy Gillespie, he established the Modern Jazz Quartet with three other band members to play more independent and complex styles of music that were not permitted by Mr. Gillespie.

By means of this disc of 33.33 rpm, Mr. Lewis played with Alexandre “Sacha” Distel, who was a French guitarist who was invited to see the Dizzy Gillespie band by his uncle Ray Ventura. A short time later, Mr. Distel became a band member who generated similar musical proficiency that Mr. Lewis did. Accordingly, Mr. Distel and Mr. Lewis had co-founded the Modern Jazz Quartet.

Although the Atlantic 1269 catalog # was the final disc of the Atlantic Jazz Series (the 1200 catalog ID #s) that was first released without any spiral fan mark, this disc, Atlantic 1267, was the first disc of the 1200 catalog ID #s) that was originally issued with the spiral fan logo by means of only the front jacket due to the fact that Atlantic and other record companies did not always issue their discs of 33.33 rpm catalog ID #s in chronological order.
