Notes

Produced by Felix Pappalardi by Arrangement with Robert Stigwood

Although this was the third disc of 33.33 rpm that was issued by Cream, this was the first LP that had two discs of 33.33 rpm, and that opened and closed in a similar format of a book. All the tunes of the first disc were made in a recording studio, whereas the songs of the second disc were recorded live at the Fillmore Theatre.

With the exception of the United States and Canada, this disc was both monaurally and stereofonically issued to the record shops. However, this disc of 33.33 rpm was monaurally issued in the United States, but was only available to radio station personalities. Albeit the Atco monaural label discs of 33.33 rpm were of a yellow-orange color that was in the upper arc and of a blue color that was of the Atco logo and of the lower arc of the disc, the label color of this audition copy was of an entire grey background of which the Atco logo was of a black color.

Due to the fact that this is the rarest and most difficult disc of Cream that one may find, a near mint audition copy may easily sell for more than $1000 and a still-sealed copy is likely to sell for greater than or equal to $2000. (Mod edit!...DJ copies in the US weren't sealed..so finding a sealed mono copy is impossible....)

Despite the fact that the recording career of Cream lasted only two years, this group had recorded four discs of 33.33 rpm, which had sold more than 100,000,000 throughout the next few decades. Finally, Cream is one of the few rock groups of the 1960's decade that is very popular among the millennial generation of adolescents.

WTF? Did it really take all that to say that the Mono release is promo only? The label descriptions make my brain hurt...

I don't know but it wasn't uncommon for UK releases of US material to be fold downs of stereo recordings. The mono UK Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys is a fold down of the duophonic stereo remarkably, giving an odd "Double tracked" effect! Can't speak for US releases of UK albums though.

I have the UK original mono double set and the stereo "Studio" seperate release. I haven't noticed any differences in the mix, only to say the sound quality and entertainment quality of both mono and stereo versions are equal.

Does anyone know if the mono copy of this album is a dedicated mono mix or simply a fold-down of the stereo mix?
