| | Back when I started re-collecting Reggae and Ska in 1986, albums were the thing to have and the 45s were usually stuck away unloved in boxes at the end of the shop. So I was out every weekend and coming back with armfuls of the Undertaker, Moonlight Groover, Dandy Returns etc etc but not really paying much more than £5-10 each. Then by the late `80s they'd gone quite a bit pricier and I was paying around £25 each for blue Coxsone and early Pama sets. I remember paying £35 for a mint copy of 'Battle Axe' in 1989 which was a small fortune then. Still the 45s went begging.
In more recent times one can pay hundreds for 45s with the albums fetching much less. Very recently though LP prices have gone through the roof, but I think that's more a reflection of catching up with the crazy 45s prices than anything else, plus it probably mirrors the scarcity of Reggae and Ska 45s in the marketplace so people are going for albums when they see them. I've kept all my albums but a lot of the 45s I sold for brass farthings after being CD-R'd in 2004 and are now selling for £000s. |

| | I sold all my reggae/ska LPs (along with all the singles) a few years ago. I was amazed at the prices then, but now I'm thinking I should have tried to hang on to them a bit longer.
I've added quite a few 45s to the database, but though I've got hundreds of LPs I could add, including soul compilations, I can't scan 12" sleeves so they will have to wait! |

| | Along with this all-Stax one, I've another HIT 67 (all Atlantic tracks) and HIT 66 (again all Atlantic). There's also HIT 68 (all Atlantic I think, still on the wants list and which I think was the last in the series. There's another Stax comp out there which contains a mix of Soul, Blues and R&R.
I've been buying up these comps recently as I've barely got any `60s Soul vinyl on album and prices for my preferred Reggae and Ska are now way beyond my pocket. |

| | Just played it - absolutely stonking comp. Full marks to the compiler. Sleeve note is by Bill Harry who I seem to remember was connected to the Mersey scene? |
