TheDroid 5th Mar 2016		I didn't actually use the term "cut-out" or "promo" in that way, I was simply explaining why the divot mark was there as this was a radio station giveaway.



musictom SUBS 5th Mar 2016		Actually cut-out and promo are two different things. Promos are give to radio and press to promote the record. They are often mutilated in some fashion to discourage selling. Cut-out (meaning cut out of the catalog) is when an record has stopped selling and remaining stock is being sold off at reduced price (with no return privileges). They are marked in some fashion to indicate no return. The net result may look the same; it may be hard to tell a promo from a cut-out after the fact.



TheDroid 5th Mar 2016		The divot prominently seen at the top of the album images is a cut-out marker used when the label gave copies to radio stations for promotional use.
