toppopper: lp covers (often in tough-ish plastic display sleeves) were & are most often displayed face-on in browsers; people looking through are mostly (~90-95%) right-handed; we read english (& most other writing) from left to right, and tend to obscure the top right-hand third or quarter of the lps' covers as we leaf through them: so top left-to-top centre is the best place to put artist & title, all else being equal.

My original comment was meant tongue in (right) cheek.
The flipping of negatives with particular reference to guitarists is one of those things that really annoy me.

@YankeeDisc: seems that we had the same idea in the same minute :-)

A special mock up of what the sleeve might have looked like, with the correct orientation of the original picture............purely for fun. (image #67150)

fixbutte had the same idea (image #67151)

I think more often than not, LP titles are to the left. Maybe the rationale is that they can be more easily read while flicking through a shelf of records, with the spines closest to you?

Donovan is most certainly a right handed guitarist, and the most simple explanation is that the art department flipped the picture, so as to accommodate the custom printing with the large font used for the title...........perhaps it looked "wrong" the other way around.

More likely a flipped negative. There is no visible writing to confirm this though.

Ah, the buttons are on the wrong side too.

Haha - he's not!! Good spot. Perhaps the photographer only had a left handed guitar to hand...

I'm fairly sure Donovan is not left handed...
