Lee Wrecker 10th Sep 2017		Evenin' All, Well, just looking at the page now I think the two back Cover's should be side by side and the labels left as they are. They are in the correct order but that back cover of mine between two labels with a different cat#s looks a bit out of place to me. I just think like next to like would look better now that the chronology is sorted. Nearly there though. mod edit: your wish etc etc...

Jasper 10th Sep 2017		Hi Whassup, by PhilMH comments and my understanding your labels would fit straight after the original pink labels before Lee Wreckers as Lee's has the abbreviated cat #.



PhilMH ● 10th Sep 2017		Hi Whassup, going by the Island label designs in 45cat, I would say that your pink rim label with the SIL-9xxxxxx number would be about 1972, possibly early 1973, and would come before my copy with the abbreviated number on the labels. As I recall, Australia still had the pink Island label up until at least late 1971 - certainly first issues of TEASER AND THE FIRECAT had that label, because I have one - and I read some years ago in the Discogs forums that Chris Blackwell visited this country sometime in the 1971-1972 period (possibly when Cat toured) and was mightily displeased that Festival hadn't yet switched over to the pink rim label, which had come into use in the UK in 1970. Festival, suitably chastened, switched to the correct label pronto!



Whassup 10th Sep 2017		I actually have 2 copies of this album. My 1st copy has exactly the same front cover sleeve as Lee Wreckers and exactly the same back cover as Jasper. It also has the same Pink Island label as in Jasper's images. My 2nd copy has exactly the same front cover sleeve as Lee Wreckers and exactly the same back cover as Jasper. It's label has the Pink Rim label and has the cat # SIL-934,028 on it. I have included images for my labels. Would be quite interested as to what year my second copy was released. Any help would be greatly appreciated.



Lee Wrecker 17th Dec 2016		Yes wax_museum these festival cat#s are definitely a unique breed and it would certainly look weird to anyone outside Australia but I agree that this page looks the goods now. However, I don't think I want a full time job fixing all the others up but I suppose we can fix them as we find them when we're mooching about. Oh, thanks for your support in getting this one across the line and we really have Phil to thank for putting the idea forward in the first place and Jasper for coming out of the clouds with the original release overnight. When things like this happen so quickly and smoothly it really makes me feel good about 45Worlds and what we can achieve with our work here.



wax_museum 17th Dec 2016		As long as there is a standard, should be fine as is now. But there are still a load of other festival issues on this site all screwed up. Would be nice to see some consistency in the cataloguing. Once the MODS from out of Oz get their heads around the system they should be ok. Great job. At last!



Lee Wrecker 16th Dec 2016		Thanks wax_museum I'm glad you can see where we're coming from here but I have sent a correction to do just as you have suggested and we seem to have run into problems with the site guidelines according to robozuc (MOD). Should I PM the Australian MODS TheVinylJunkie and Pomegranate and see what they can do because I think this Festival cat# problem may be better understood by MODS that have experience in what we're trying to get at here. Oh, added this and this for your list. They are mini albums though so I don't know if they belong.

Just need labels in correct order, and then you're ready to tackle all the other entries that need fixing up in the never-ending saga of Festival cat #'s on this site. Discogs is very sloppy on all this, no wonder people get confused. It's great to see the effort being made to put the entries in order!



PhilMH ● 15th Dec 2016		Hi robozuc, they are all variations/abbreviations of the same original catalogue number, and as my copy has SIL-934,028 on the cover and L-34,028 on the labels, it makes sense to put all versions with either of those numbers together. I agree we haven't found IL-34,028 yet, and so should leave it out until confirmation that it exists (which it might not, as I don't think there was a very long period between Festival's dropping of the S from prefixes and dropping all the initial letters except for L altogether).



robozuc 15th Dec 2016		Hi guys, don't forget here there are two different cat.numbers, my opinion, following the rules is : one entry for: SIL-934028 (other cat.# SIL-934,028 on labels) 1970 one entry for: L-34028 (other cat.# L-34,028 on labels) Palm Tree 1972? / Blue-Orange '75/76? For both a link in Notes which refers to first issue and/or reissue with a variant number. Finally if you make a reserch for cat.# you will find both separately as it should be. And IL 34028 where is?



Lee Wrecker 15th Dec 2016		My goodness, what an effort thanks Phil and Jasper. I have entered the date as 1970 and added the additional cat#s as IL 34028 / L 34028. A long-winded correction has been sent explaining the need to change the primary cat# to SIL-934028 and shuffle the scans into place. Well done everyone it's been a bit of journey but I think this entry is finally coming together very nicely.



PhilMH ● 15th Dec 2016		P.S. just had a look in ebay, and there's a pink rim version with the SIL- number, so that would be the second issue, making mine the third if there's no IL version, and the fourth if there is.



PhilMH ● 15th Dec 2016		Added my pink rim a/k/a first palm tree labels (2nd? 3rd? issue) with the L catalogue number; front cover is the same as Lee's, back cover is the same as Jasper's. Lee, go ahead and request the corrections, except leave the IL version of the number out until we're sure whether or not it exists.



Jasper 15th Dec 2016		Added labels and back cover of my original issue album (front same as image 1219179). Hopefully it will all make sense once the cat # is amended and images shuffled into place.



Lee Wrecker 14th Dec 2016		So the cat# should look like this then SIL-934028 / IL 34028 / L 34028 as they are all variations or company altered versions of the same number and the release date of 1970 will fit all of those as they are all interpretations of the same number that have been slightly altered over time. It makes sense to me Phil. Shall I send a correction and set the date at 1970.



PhilMH ● 14th Dec 2016		My feeling is SIL-934028 should be the primary number, because that's how it was first released in 1970, and L-34028 is the secondary (at least unless and until an IL 34028 copy turns up, then the mods would have to make that second; I think there are other entries in here with three numbers, don't remember what they are just at the moment).



Lee Wrecker 14th Dec 2016		So how do we go forward add SIL-934028 as a secondary cat# and use 1970 as the release date. Or request a correction to have SIL-934028 as the primary cat# and move L 34028 to the secondary cat# position and use 1970 as the release date? Or just put the date 1970 on this one and when a copy of SIL-934028 turns up create a separate entry all together? Or??? Or?? What do you think?

PhilMH ● 14th Dec 2016		P.S. looking in the Australian Chart Book 1970-1992, the number simplification seems to have started in late 1972, as CATCH BULL AT FOUR (entered chart 2nd October 1972) was IL 34653, and the following year's FOREIGNER (entered chart 3rd September 1973) was IL 34884. This one entered the chart 12th April 1971, and "Father And Son" made the singles charts soon after.



PhilMH ● 14th Dec 2016		Hi Lee, I tend to think that the variations in the catalogue number (due to Festival simplifying their numbering in 1973/1974) should all be under the one entry, so the release year should be entered as 1970. As I remember it, Festival first dropped the S for stereo from the prefixes and the 9 from the beginning of the number, so there may well be a version somewhere that is numbered IL-34028. Later, Festival dropped all the initial letters other than L (or K, C, and T for singles, cassettes and cartridges) to end up with L-34028. My copy has the original SIL-934028 on the back, and L-34,028 on the label, which is the previous palm-tree-on-an-island design (the first design would have been the pink label with the big white i at the bottom). I think I bought mine around 1974 or 1975, and this blue and orange design seems to have started in Oz towards the end of '75.



Lee Wrecker 14th Dec 2016		Linked all copies of this together on the site, now that I know how it was very easy. This copy looks a mid 70's reissue and has a different cat# to the original Australian release. Discogs has got this one all wrong and reckons it's also 1970 due the original cat# appearing on the back sleeve but that is not the case on my copy. So once again I've left the date blank but my guess is 1975-76 - but that's just a guess based on the label design. Where are the boffins??
