Lee Wrecker 29th Aug 2017		PhilMH, RCA had a crack at trying to tap in to the burgeoning blues market in Australia at the time (late 70's). They noticed that the likes of Stockade and Larrikin were charting with contemporary blues artists mainly through the success of George Thorogood's debut on Stockade. RCA promptly scooped up the rights to Rounder and other boutique USA blues labels but were unable to replicate the success minor labels were having due to the fact they had absolutely no inside knowledge of the market or of the stock in the new catalogues they had acquired. Just the usual story I suppose the majors move in, stuff everything up and then disappear leaving a mess behind. This is just my recollection of what happened from a customers perspective and is not based on any substantiated evidence whatsoever.

I looked again in Michael de Looper's Independent label listing, and it appears that the ELEC 4342 issue was on the Electric label, distributed by Larrikin, and the release year is shown as 1979, so as that also appears in the August 1980 AMSCAT, I presume that this LRF issue is later than that. The E 109 issue was probably on the Eureka/Stockade label (originally distributed by Electric, then RCA; Michael's listing for this label only goes up to E 107 by Judy Bailey in 1977).



PhilMH 29th Aug 2017		Probably before May 1980, as it is listed in my copy of the AMSCAT catalogue for that month. I say probably because, although it shows as being distributed by Larrikin, the catalogue number is shown as ELEC 4342, which is the number shown under the LRF 061 on the labels here, and God knows where it comes from, because it doesn't seem to appear on any other version. Interestingly, the May 1979 AMSCAT lists this album as distributed by RCA (AMSCAT only listed distributors, not labels) with catalogue number E 109, which is similarly mysterious, not appearing in either Discogs or Michael de Looper's listings as far as I can see. AMSCAT also lists a couple of other Hound Dog albums as being simultaneously distributed by Festival (not sure at what point in the 70s they had the rights to Alligator, but they got the label again sometime in the 1990s or 2000s) and Larrikin (Sonet imports).

So 80 or 81 is as close as I can go. I'd go for 80 as a hunch. What do you or the owner of the label think?

Fokeman 29th Aug 2017		The date of publishing on Alligator Records was 1976 - this was DEFINITELY not issued in Australia that same year. My best guess is 1981.



Lee Wrecker 28th Nov 2015		Thanks 55bluesman and privatecitizen I was very surprised to see it was the only entry and it makes more sense to me now. Unfortunately, this is only album I have left I did have Hound Dog Taylor And The HouseRockers and Natural Boogie but they went the way of the wind or got trashed. I'm glad I managed to keep a good clean copy of this though. It is my favourite of later Hound Dog albums. It just has a real spark to it the studio albums don't seem to be able to capture.
