 Just how frustrating the task is, of getting Tyrannosaurus Rex on CD. I was in Fopp the other week, just browsing, and I happened to remember that T.R. had been on my wish-list for a very long time and noted that I had read about some relatively recent, (a few years ago), 'deluxe releases' which seemed worthy of investigation. However I also remembered that previous explorations over the years had proved fruitless, - that the reissues were somewhat troubling, - at least enough to prevent a purchase. And so it was yet again, another pass.
OK, I'm not someone who normally buys a CD if I have the music on vinyl, the music would have to be extra special to me, or there has to be an incentive for buying the album again - such as extra tracks. I own all of the Tyrannosaurus Rex LPs, 3 in stereo and 2 in mono, the 'Prophets' LP is the duplicate and the mono version is flat and lifeless in comparison to the stereo version, so naturally I want the stereo CD versions. And I would like some extra tracks please. Well, it seems like the choices on CD are [going on oldest first]: 1) stereo, dubbed off vinyl, no extra tracks. 2) stereo and mono versions together, one or two extra tracks maybe mono only 3) 'bulky' deluxe 2CD package, remastered mono only, Peel sessions and unfinished/alternative takes 4) various dodgy-looking CDs of unknown origin lacking mono/stereo indicators, 5) budget straight reissues and 2-fers also not indicating mono/stereo.
Yes, there is a large selection to choose from but they all seem botched to me. Is there not a CD that has the original stereo LP remastered & includes relevant singles and maybe include any properly finished (but unissued) tracks. Radio sessions etc are usually best kept separate.
