To those asking why two tracks were dropped from the Marble Arch reissue, that was the price we paid (literally) for these budget releases. They sold around 12s/6d (62½p) at the time which was less than half the price of a full price LP. Hence two tracks were left off, especially as the full price LP was sometimes still on catalogue. This happened with Pye LPs by Donovan, Kinks, the Searchers etc. All had tracks left off when they appeared on Marble Arch.

 a gap of two years is not ''fairly immediately'';

i don't remember seeing any deletions of the full-price album on sale at knocked-down prices in any of the record shops we frequented in north london, but i don't think i'd've been looking out specifically for it either.

i suspect it was a fairly slow mover, after its first three-to-six months on the pye record group catalogue, and the decision to cease re-pressing it was in consequence an automatic reaction the very first time it came up for review.

the pye record group was a strange monster, and one that didn't place much value upon the lp catalogue backlist of its pop groups - amongst which captain beefheart & his magic band were accounted, as well as the kinks - in comparison to their current and forthcoming singles: it didn't bother to release the pop groups' albums in stereo, for example, until years after the other majors - iirc ''something else by the kinks'' was the first kinkalbum released in stereo as well as in mono° - and even then, pye records didn't bother to have stereo lp covers (or dual stereo/mono covers) printed, but just stuck little white peelable sticky labels with the nspl-prefixed cat#s over the mono npl-prefixed numbers on the back covers.

and this was despite their having been commendably quick to release their classical music lps in stereo. . .

I was under the impression the original Pye International 12 track version was deleted fairly quickly and replaced with this budget issue. I've only seen copies of the original with the temporary blue label.

Marble Arch re-issued Kinda Kinks in 1969 in its entirety.

the marble arch label was always an at least somewhat ''semi-detached'' part of the atv-owned pye record group, releasing records seasonally or monthly, not weekly, and distributing mainly (though not solely) through non-traditional outlets, at prices greatly reduced from full-price 12'' lp records released on the main group labels.

if marble arch had released the original, full lps at 10/6d at the same time as the main label release was distributed at ~27/11d (rising to 32/6d, 35/-, 37/6d, then 39/11d, then...) the main label managers at pye records would've had kittens! - and kicked up an almighty row, too, besides. . .

(in the fading days of the pye records group, and as they increasingly lost uk (?& commonwealth?) rights to various merkin music companies' catalogues, this began to fall by the wayside - possibly as fewer and fewer employees who actually knew what they were doing stayed in the by-then obviously sinking ship.)

I fail to understand why two tracks, "I'm Glad" and "Grown So Ugly" were omitted from this re-issue. Surely, it would've been far cheaper has they used the original master cut plates instead of re-cutting it for this re-issue?

All fixed now Redpunk you can hide my screenshot if you like or leave it if you think it is amusing, up to you?

As Jaspar and Lee are both Australian there must be a lag in updates, I'll post a question to O.C.

Thanks for corroborating my view Jasper and for all the advice Redpunk and Hawkmarty but after following all of everyone's proposed solutions the page as remained the same. There have been a number of crashes on 45 Worlds periodically in the past week that seem to be unique to Australia and one did occur while I was entering my copy of this which had also linked to Redpunk's copy. Wires crossed in cyberspace perhaps? It certainly is odd though.

I see two Pye labels. Those seeing a red label try pressing F5 a few times.

I see the same as Lee Wrecker when I click on the red Buddah label image I see side 2 of the blue Pye label.

I would say as the image you're seeing is one of your own, it is probably your cache needs clearing out as that is not what I'm seeing.

Took a screenshot and it is next to the red label on my screen. You can have it deleted but that is how it looks to me but as I said if I click on it, it will show your label. Might be interesting to see if anyone else sees it my way but it is a bit weird.

Hey, Redpunk something weird is happening with your label scan of Side Two. On the page your side 2 disc appears as my side 1 disc but if you click on it to enlarge it it shows your uploaded side two. I'll copy this message and send a correction. The album though is a classic, two songs missing or not. I can recall Beefheart fans bemoaning the fact that this version was the only one available for many a year - it didn't stop anyone buying it though.

Hi there, not got around to adding scans for this one but the track listing is correct only 5 per side. P.S. Now added scans.

Is this version really missing the tracks I'm Glad and Grown So Ugly (A5 and B5 on the original release) or did you just miss them when entering the album?

The original PYE International release was the 12 track version. I don't have a copy but have seen one. Has the temporary blue label.

full album also released in the uk as "dropout boogie", after uk rights to the us label (kama sutra, later kama sutra/buddah & kama sutra and buddah) (blame neil bogart) were leased to polydor uk. i believe some instances of the pye/atv records' releases mayn't've cut two tracks, but I don't recall for certain: the marble arch budget lp definitely did - see labels here.
