The label typesetting on {Image #1543324} is Bert-Co. Now if someone were to step forward with the Side 2 variant with those fonts, that'll be complete . . .

Added a variation of a Los Angeles pressing (looks like earlier font used on LA pressings) fmc. My copy has a side 2 that resembles image # 490745. My copy has different type settings on each side, I have never seen this before.

According to Bruce Spizer in his book on the Fab Four's Capitol LP's, the booklet on West Coast copies was printed by a firm called Medallion Printers.

the choruses of the original mono track (i.e. as on the mono double ep) of "blue jay way" make it quite distinctly different from - and imnsho distinctly better than - the original stereo mix (i.e. as on the stereo double ep): the backing vocals are differently-timed, and may've been re-recorded for the stereo mix.

i do now have the merkin stereo lp - on capitol, bought as soon as i could get it; i don't recall it sounding different from the original stereo mix, bicvwbw.

Honestly, R.C., I never really noticed. I'd have thought, once the stereo mix was made, it would be stored and used in whatever compilation of Beatles material which required the track - one size fits all, so-to-speak!

I'll leave that one with you, R.C. but I know there are normal stereo mixes of those last three tracks in EMI's vaults.... somewhere! The Essential Beatles(I believe) carried stereo mixes of Penny Lane and All You Need Is Love, this leaves only Baby You're A Rich Man, which I have heard in stereo.

I just played the cassette to see if penny lane was in fake stereo yep I was right

I have had the US issue of this on the Apple label for some years now. Seems the US Apple issue is the most common. And an aside to Record Collector, it's the last two tracks, Baby You're A Rich Man and All You Need Is Love that are in "fake stereo". Penny Lane is in a not-too-well-defined normal stereo. The Apple(USA) issue has the same catalogue number, though the prefix is SMAL. Thus my copy will be of 1971 vintage. It is said that EMI in Britain took quite a few years before finally issuing the album there, 1976, and again in 1978, making up for the delay, perhaps, both times on Parlophone rather than Apple.

I first bought this in 1981 as a Australian issue on cassette under the title magical mystery tour and other titles The last three songs are in fake stereo
