Title on container: Diana Ross And The Supremes Greatest Hits.
Produced by Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier. Recorded at Hitsville U.S.A. Studios, Detroit, MI.
Double LP in a gatefold cover
My copy has a stamped "H" in the dead wax however on all 4 sides it is scratched out.I thought mine was a reissue because I got it in the 70s. It has a 1 1/2 inch gold band attached to edge of the Ross portrait that showed on the outside of the cover,
and all the pictures are attached together in one strip.Record one has side 1 & 2 record two has side 3 & 4 .
Thanks W.B.lbl. I had forgotten that RCA Hollywood had the wider deep groove. I felt that Columbia must be incorrect. I will request the descriptions be corrected. [Mod: done]
'H's' in the deadwax in 1967, especially with label type by Bert-Co, indicate RCA in Hollywood. Especially since all sides have deep groove.
Besides, at that time Columbia was in Motown's doghouse over two years before what that label reissued two old Four Tops' tracks, leading to Motown rush-recording and -releasing "It's The Same Old Song" in response. Except for a brief period in mid-1967 when RCA's plant(s) were on strike, Columbia didn't press regular stock product for Motown again until 1970. (Pressings for customers of Columbia's record club were something else - but that ended in 1969 for five years.)
Added a label set that has me rather baffled. There is a single "H" in the deadwax on all sides, which I believe indicates Columbia, Hollywood, CA pressing. However, I thought that plant closed at the end of 1964? Additionally record one has only "A Product Of Motown Record Corp." on perimeter print, while record two has the Motown Detroit address perimeter print.
Perhaps W.B.lbl or others more knowledgeable can weigh in on this. If I have these mis-identified please correct!
