P.S. Motown's 2-on-1 CD of this album and "T.C.B." shows the writer as Alan Price and publisher as Al Gallico Music Corp, although the actual writing credit on the Animals UK single was the more accurate "Trad. arr. A. Price", which I seem to recall was contentious within the group, as they all played a part in arranging it; the Don't Forget The Motor City website has played safe by attributing the song to "Public Domain", without a publisher!

That's Al Gallico, the American publisher of the Animals' version.

Who, I wonder, is Gallico who "wrote" this version of "House of the Rising Sun"?

With a nod to trainman, better cover images added, and also labels with different typography.

To a lot of record execs, British acts all sounded alike, so the assumption was it all pointed to the origin of four mop tops . . .

Whoever came up with the title of this collection had very little grasp of English geography ... The Dave Clark Five (who had originally done A5 and B5) were from North London and The Animals (who had the huge hit with A3) were from Newcastle. Both London and Newcastle are over 200 miles from Liverpool, which in a small country like England is seen as a huge distance.

Needless to say, when this was issued in Britain the title was changed to "With Love (From Us To You)" no doubt to spare the feelings of sensitive Cockneys, Geordies and Scousers.

No sign of the UK release on 45Worlds yet, but Discogs have it here.
