Listing above is from back cover - however, discrepancy shown A1 on cover is B9 on label, where as B9 on cover is A1 on label!!!

| | The back cover of my copy shows the same track order as the labels, beginning with Yummy Yummy Yummy and ending with Nice One Cyril. Still, it has Tommy "Jones" and The Shondells instead of Tommy James (B11). |

| | Simple Answer - Marketing. For a mass market more tracks was better than fewer , complete tracks. Unfair maybe, but if you wanted the uncut items, go buy the original 45, or original label album, etc |

| | As you can see in comparison the British track listing and the Australian issue a big difference |

| | All I was saying is: If K-Tel(anywhere in the world) kept the number of tracks per LP side down to 8 or 9, they wouldn't need to edit the tracks down so much. |

| | Why does American K-Tel insist on squeezing 24 tracks onto an album? Did they not realise they'd have to edit the tracks(cut some down by a minute or more) to fit them onto the disc? An LP side can go 32 minutes at a pinch but 12 tracks on a side is sure to bulge the envelope somewhat. When K-Tel(still as Majestic) issued 24 Solid Hits in 1969 for Australia, at least 3 quarters of the content(18 tracks) were cut-down versions that ran anything up to 2 minutes less on that album than they would've on their original 45rpm issues. When the Power Hits LP came out later in 1969, the total of tracks was cut back to 20(10 per side) even then "The Real Thing"(Russell Morris) had to be shortened to roughly half it's original length. That's probably the reason why the track numbers dropped still further, to 9, then 8 per side, to avoid having to cut a song down. |

| | Actually, R.C., I'd have suggested "I've Had Everything" by Geoff "Tangletongue" Mack. He took the basic idea from what he'd already written as "I've Been Everywhere" and turned it into a hypochondriac's anthem! I found the single of this some time back and I'm looking for an excuse(chance) to include it on one of my "Vinyl To CD" compilations which I occasionally throw together. |

| | As I have the Australian issue and Neil you have the same as me look at side one good track listing but when you look at side two starts off ok but the 1910 fruit gum company spoils the track listing ktel Australia could have include a Australian track Minnie the moocher by the Cherokees for example

| | Yeah, R.C., look what the Brits missed out on, but by the same token, look what we in Australia missed out on! |

Trainman 19th Dec 2014
| | As far as the "edited" tracks, both K-Tel and Ronco (In fact Ronco more than K-Tel) were infamous in the early years to edit down the originals in order that they could get up to 12 tracks per side. They would cut verses or even speed up the recording to keep them all about the same length |

| | There are(after a breakdown of contents) only 13 tracks this version has in common with the Australian compilation. There are 11 from the Brit. version we did not get, as opposed to only 7 which the Brits missed out on. I won't list them, it'd take too much space! |

|
Neil Forbes 19th Dec 2014
| | I think the Brits might've been duded on this one, in spite of the fact that there are 24 tracks, or more likely because of this, several of the longer tracks may have been "edited"(shortened) so you don't get the complete version, I cite the 1969 issue, 24 Solid Hits(Australian edition) as an example of this, plus the complete lack of composer credits, but that's a side-issue.
But once again, a lack of originality, same title, save cover art, but in essence a completely different album! |
