| | I think the photographs that An6y66 added, images 510426, 510427, 510428 + 510430. With it having a barcode and Apple logo shouldn't that belong in it's own entry. Having the barcode alone makes it a different release and release date. Thoughts ?? |

| | Well, I'm all for consistency too - consistency with real life practice, which is what we should be documenting, so I respectfully suggest to the powers that be that that erroneous instruction be corrected. I see enough incorrect catalogue numbers (usually originating companies' numbers on overseas licensed releases) entered at Discogs, I think we can set our standards a bit higher than theirs. |

| | Hi Jasper
The main reason I like the idea of consistency is that I have made entries to 45 worlds and to 45cat after making checks for items only to find that they are already on the system, but having inconsistencies in perhaps the way the cat # or artist name has been entered. I don't have any strong views on your ideas, but I feel that we do need to be consistent when inputting information. It is easier to locate items on the system and helps to eliminate duplication of entries. |

| | Hi kab2112 - thank you for the polite response, at least I can see where you are coming from now. Thankfully this is a fairly rare occurrence and I'm all for consistency - I still believe that the pack cat# should be the primary number. I could see this one becoming a bit contentious after following the comments in CD World with the Abbey Road U.S.A. long box release. |

| | Hi Jasper
When you go to the "Add Vinyl Album" page, you will see all of the boxes for Artist, Title, Cat#. etc. There are guidance notes written in pale blue alongside these boxes advising what you should enter. |

| | Guide - Adding Vinyl Albums
Adding records to Vinyl Album World is easy and quick, but we ask you try and follow these guidelines.
Criteria
Vinyl Album World is for vinyl albums! This includes normal vinyl, box sets and picture discs.
Images
We strongly request that you also submit an image of the record you're adding. This helps us verify the entry and makes the website more interesting. It's good to submit images of the label to help with verification.
Try to find the year of release
If the year isn't on the label then please try a quick google search. Records added without images and without dates can be difficult to verify by our moderators.
Composer Credits
Please add writing credits with the names separated by a comma followed by a space before the next name eg Morrissey, Marr or T. Yorke, J. Greenwood, C. Greenwood
Don't use dashes – , forward slashes / , & or And to separate names even if they appear on the label.
Please don't use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
Producer, arranger, cover artist and other credits
Any artist credits can be added to the "Record Notes" section. This is often the producer of the record but can include any artistic credits.
Track Sections
Some albums seperate the tracks into sections. To add a section, include the text phrase SECTIONBREAK in the track title, eg: Introduction SECTIONBREAK First Song
Double album?
Double albums can be added by clicking the "Add Tracks to Double Vinyl LP" link.
Triple Album, Box Set, or more than 10 tracks per side?
By default up to 40 tracks can be added across 2 albums. If there are more albums or tracks, then they can be added after you submit the album, by clicking "Add Missing Info".
Not to seen anywhere here nor any mention of cat#s at all. Where are are they kab2112?? |

| | kab2112 - "This site specifically asks for the cat# to be taken from the labels," I have also never seen these guidelines perhaps you could let us know where we can find them. They are not in the guide for adding albums that I can see. |

kab2112 SUBS 13th Feb 2017
| | Perhaps you need to take another look, There are clear guidelines when inputting a new record - but your idea may well be right...... but... This site specifically asks for the cat# to be taken from the labels, and for the sake of consistency, that's what perhaps we should all do until such time there is a change. Before anyone kicks off, I only follow the rules & guidelines, not make them. |
|
|
|
PhilMH 13th Feb 2017
| | P.S. and what guideline? There's absolutely no mention of catalogue numbers in the guide to adding records. Any guideline should be the common-sense one, which is use the most prominent number as shown on the cover. |

PhilMH 13th Feb 2017
| | The problem with that idea is, the number on the cover is the one that would have been listed in record company catalogues, and the one that would have been used by record shops for ordering, as well as the one that would have been listed on charts. For some companies, the numbers on the labels were vastly different from the "official" catalogue number: for example, Isaac Hayes' double LIVE AT THE SAHARA TAHOE in Australia had catalogue number 2628 012 for the set, but the individual records were 2369 015 and 2369 016, a fairly typical situation for Polydor, Phonogram and Polygram labels.
PCSP 721 is the number that applies to this whole release. Any individual record numbers should be entered in notes. |

|
kab2112 SUBS 13th Feb 2017
| | When inputting records onto this site, the guidelines for the cat# is to use the what appears on the labels, which in some cases can be different to the covers. (such as this one) |

Quad5point1 4th Feb 2017
| | Just noticing the date on Label 4 for the track "This Boy" has 1973, surely this should be 1963. On the newer label it's still 1973 ??? |

| | The package/set number is the only one that counts - it's the only one that appears on the cover, and the only one that would have been used for ordering. |
