After fifty years, finally got time to sit and listen to my records, not that many but got to listen to this one and Beatles white album which I was disappointed with but not with this one, great tracks that stand the test of time, The Boxer being my favourite.

I obtained my copy as a birthday present (Feb 14th 1970)

It was given to me by a friend who worked in a local record shop. The album had just been released.

I can assure you that very early copies have a glossy front sleeve and matt back.

There is no mention of Acuff-Rose on the cover but it gets a credit on the label.

The label on side two is identicle to those posted and illustrated.

However side one has major differencs.
All tracks are attributed to -P Simon-
Under El Condor Pasa there is no mention of (Trad: Arr Jorge Mitchberg/ Paul .Simon). Track one does not have that lone P Simon credit and the -P Simon credit under the titles is set slightly lower than those illustrated above.

The inner sleeve has never been swapped over and therefore also an original. The front has advertising in black and white - including "Bookends" and Dylan's "Nashville Skyline"
The other side of the sleeve is a full page article (also used by Columbia in the US) extolling the virtues of "Long Playing Records" - 8 reasons for buying them, no less.

Just been down to the dungeon to dig out my copy of this - turns out I've got three. Checked the labels and covers and my copies are all the same, very much like those uploaded by Getalife but a slightly different layout in terms of spacing on the labels. I've now added them here.

Alan Tew album shows 1974 haven’t checked the others on sleeve but would point to a later sleeve.

Having second thoughts on my comment of 17th October 2016, laminated with plain sleeve 1970 and mat cover with albums sleeve later.

@ Getalife, I did a quick search on the address on the sleeve 28/30 Theobalds Road, London and looking at the images HERE it would appear that CBS were resident there until 1973 and from 1973 / 1979 (at least) resident at 17/19 Soho Square, London W1V 6H. I don't think it's meaning Sounds Of The 70's in a past tense, rathermore this is the new decade / new music Sounds Of The 70's. If you look at the other side of the sleeve it says "A" Sound Of The 70's".

@kab2112, my comment on "Sound of the 70s" sleeve would that sleeve be an older release as Feb 1970 is a bit early to do sounds of the 70s more like 1980 to cover the 70s.

Sleeve bottom right "Sound of the 70s" bit early as album only released Feb 1970.

Fifty years old this month and timeless. Just picked up a very good 1970 original for only £3, bargain.

My laminated front matrix A1 and B1 has Boudleaux with printed record cover. Rear cover missing Acuff-Rose, but label has it.

@cptbeefheart, thanks for that, mine is the same as yours which I will take as the first one I bought when it was released 1970, the other with the laminated cover, plain sleeve, and with “by permission of Acuff-Rose Music” missing as a later copy. Have just added image of missing “by permission of Acuff-Rose Music”.

@ getalife, Haven't a notion. The copy I have now wasn't bought too long ago but I did buy it when it was released and it was definitely matte both sides

@cptbeefheart, any idea which came first mat or gloss, not that it matters.

@cptbeefheart, no problem. I have two of these, both same label, one with gloss front cover and one mat, one has S63699 A1, B5 the other has S63699 A7, B7, also one cover has ***by Felice and*boudleaux c 1957 by permission of Acuff-Rose Music, the over has ***by Felice and Boudreaux Bryant c1957. One has inner sleeve as yours the other plain.

R.C., I recall several of the tracks from this LP issued as singles during 1969. I actually have El Condor Pasa c/w Why Don't You Write Me on an American CBS-Columbia single, in stereo, no less! and a copy of the title track paired with Keep The Customer Satisfied in a picture-sleeve(somewhat flimsy and falling apart - the sleeve, that is) which is only in mono! Also on American CBS-Columbia, I hasten to add. Perhaps they issued the singles as "teasers" for the LP and held the LP back until 1970. I had a regular Aussie issue of Celia c/w The Only Living Boy In New York - was that one in stereo in the USA? And MrGobby, If you hold the two copies of your albums up to your eyes, do you get a stereo-optical view?

Give a close listen to the end of A-5. As Art is singing "So long", for what seems an eternity, a jokey annoyed sounding Paul bellows "So long already, Artie!"

Cover up Paul Simon's face, and Art Garfunkel has a huge Cossak moustache. Did they do that on purpose?
