You're on the money here Droid. Side 2 is all killer and The American Ruse is one of my favourite MC5 songs ever. In a way this one is like The Stooges Raw Power in that the mix is controversial or a least very different sounding to rest of the bands output. Complaints about this one usually focus on the thin mix with not enough bottom end which is similar to the so called problems associated with the Bowie mix of "Raw Power".
However, if you grew up listening to these albums you just accept that and get on with getting into it. The peculiarities of the mix on both albums add to their charm (not a word I thought I'd use when talking about MC5 and The Stooges) and make them even more unique.
Right, enough blathering on about how good it is I'm off to listen to this right now. I'll be back in half an hour (it's not very long) fully pumped up. Lookout! chop, chop, chop, chop......
What a great album that still rocks over 45 years later! Added front cover, back cover and two sets of label images. I haven't run into too many Atlantic pressings showing "DCW". The Monarch deltas for this are:
Side One Δ 14161.
Side Two Δ 14161-X.
