| | carryonsidney: i doubt it'll've sold all that many, too: but i just don't know. it can't've sold many as the full-price liberty uk lp, or ua/liberty'd've kept re-pressing, & charging full whack for it - wouldn't they?
(but i don't know how much decisions regarding the sunset label may've been directed by the uk major (pressing and) distributing liberty/ua's records here - eventually, sunset became a part of emi - after the merkin parent record corp. was ''bought'' by emi's capitol records - and i think i recall totally-unrelated-to-ua/liberty recordings being released upon the label, then.) |

| | I just did a double check on the label mine is identical to the first issue, can only assume they changed sleeve types mid way throught the first run of vinyls pressings as this is unlikely to have been a big seller at the time? |

Quad5point1 SUBS 26th Jun 2015
| | I managed to find images of the later Sunset press labels and posted them here for comparison. You can see quite clearly the differences between the two issues. and you are right carryonsidney the later laminated sleeve was only laminated on the front with about about 1/4" to 1/2" flipped over on to the rear panel, I know mine didn't wear too well as the card used to make the sleeve was quite light and it was subject to wear very quickly. |

| | I was just passing by and saw this, I have a sleeve laminated on the front only, theres a plain white inner inner, but not neccessarily original, however the vinyl disc is identical to cptbeefheart 's copy and I haven't weighed it but it feels fairly heavy and sounds good to me. |

| | cptbeefheart: thanks for the correction of the delu^W^W my ignorance regarding an original full-price liberty uk label release. yes, i s'spect mine'll've been a later pressing of the sunset reissue.
(''wasn't always/weren't always up to scratch'' != ''was always/were always not up to scratch''; quite apart from aught else, there was a shedload (™) of stuff released on sunset, i had no interest in listening to, if i didn't have to - i cannot comment on the sound reproduction quality of aught i never listened to!
but those that i did listen to, were... uneven. some were fine - but others, decidedly not.) |

Quad5point1 SUBS 25th Jun 2015
| | When I first saw your comment ppint I wanted to reply straight away but thought I would do a bit more research before doing so. Strictly Personal was released in the UK 1968 on the Liberty label and you can get the relevant info here http://www.discogs.com/Captain-Beefheart-His-Magic-Band-Strictly-Personal/release/1783862 + here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Beefheart_discography. I couldn't remember off hand but I was sure the Sunset pressing still had the Liberty matrix numbers in the deadwax but scratched out. So I got into the attic and dug it out and I was right, My copy on Side 1 has the Liberty Matrix LBS 83172 A-2U + the Sunset matrix SLS 50208 A-2U. Side 2 has the Liberty matrix LBS 83172 B-2U + the Sunset matrix SLS 50208 B-2U. The vinyl weighs in at 147g and although the sleeve isn't laminated it is a better quality sleeve with thicker embossed card than the later laminated version. I did at one time own the second Sunset pressing and would agree that the quality is not as good as the first Sunset pressing which would probably be on a par with the original Liberty issue. The audio quality on my album is also excellent and definitely doesn't sound second rate to me |

| | as one side of the paper inner sleeve declares, "sunset" was liberty/ua uk's budget-price line: but strangely, some major albums only saw uk release on this label; and the quality of neither the sound reproduction, nor that of the card outer sleeve artwork or printing, was (?were?) always up to scratch.
sfaicr, neither this album, nor the gordon lightfoot, nor the del shannon nth anniversary album was preceded by full-price label release in the uk: or if it was, 'twere only poorly-distributed; and the packaging of the del shannon, especially, was perfunctory, poor - and verging on the tawdry, even. |
