Image 3205873, the front-page ad from Billboard dated February 24th 1973, actually says "Album available March 1", which was a Thursday; both March 3 and March 10 were Saturdays, and nothing was ever released on that day of the week. Billboard's cover date was always a Saturday, and Billboard's date doesn't correlate to a release date.
Brings back memories of seeing Pink Floyd in September 1972 playing Dark Side long before the album was released. Awesome show and one of my top three.
With respect to Vinyl Fan, Whassup & misa443, I have added better quality scans, including scan of shrink wrap sticker and first rim print labels previously mentioned by the W.B.
Third issue, label variation: Text around the edge starts at 10 O'Clock and reads:
"MFD. by Capitol Records, Inc., a subsidiary of Capitol Industries-EMI, Inc., U.S.A. • Capitol Marca reg. • All rights reserved. Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws"
Released with two postcard sized Pink Floyd stickers (yellow and blue) and two foldout posters (green pyramids and band photos with own numbers SMAS-11163-1 and SMAS-11163-2)
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London between June 1972 and January 1973.
