This might lay claim to be the first non-20-hits title in the Majestic catalogue, but I'm only guessing here.

| | a few catch up tracks that were released six months previously when this albums was issued in November 1973 |

Record Collector 4th Apr 2024
| | The (p) 1973 a very rare sight to see on a compilation as with my copy it's not printed. |

Record Collector 4th Apr 2024
| | By this time 50 years ago this album would've been in the bargain bin as it was released in November 1973 the previous year. |

| | No surprises here, R.C.! They were ALL limited collector's items! I Wonder how many units of each title were pressed? Guess I'll never know the answer to that one. |
Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | as it says down the bottom a limited collectors album well that sums up today for us record collectors |

| | Thanks R.C.! I couldn't think of the third LP issued in 1973, you've filled in the blank space. Note also the name Barry has been corrected. Thanks, Moderator! My typing is sometimes afflicted by what I term "keyboard gremlins"! They jump in every so often and cause havoc with what I'm trying to type on my keyboard. If I had a gun..... |

Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | actually it was three 20 Happening Hits volume three released in march 1973 followed by Super Bad July and Rock Explosion November so it would make a great festive season present |
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | I think Majestic used to only put out one LP per year until about 1969, then we started seeing two or three in the same year. Super Bad, Rock Explosion and one other during 1973, at my guess. |
Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | going by the track listing it gives you the impression some of those tracks could have made it on the super bad album but were held back to be issued on this album |

Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | first Ktel commercial I ever saw was Mind Bender it was released around March-April of 1975 followed up by outa sight around September that year |

Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | I don't know. I must've been hiding under a rock or something but these later K-Tel ads from the 70s don't ring any bells with me. I can remember(vaguely) earlier ads for 24 Solid Hits and 20 Power Hits, plus promos for their Country Greats, but they go back to 1969/70. I can't remember NBN running any album promos for K-Tel after 1972 or so... or maybe I've just blocked them out of my mind. |

| | Same person who did the super bad commercial |
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | Surprisingly enough I don't remember that ad. I don't think Station NBN-Newcastle ever ran it! |
Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | Remember this |
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | Thanks for that, R.C.! Shame though. You'd think that by cutting back from 24 to 20 tracks, there'd be room aplenty for FULL versions of songs, But K-Tel EDITED Susie Darlin'? I think I'll go find a nice quiet corner and cry my eyes out(ha-ha). |

Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | I just checked Neil as I have it on CD also the middle verse is missing so it's a edit version on this album |

Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | Have asked the moderator for the correction, which will be made in due course. |

Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | R.C. I think it's exactly as per the Festival single issue FK-5087. |

Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | Very clever edit of susie darling last verse same first |
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015
| | I'll ask the moderator to make the correction as my own attempt failed. The typo I can only attribute to "keyboard gremlins"! As for the track itself, surprisingly it's quite a good rendition, even surpasses the original Robin Luke version of 15 years earlier(1958). So I don't mind it at all! |

| | I think A8 should read Barry Crocker - not Braay although I can understand you not wanting to admit you have one of his songs in your collection. |
Record Collector 9th Jan 2015
| | Interesting how rocket man is a late edition on the album |
Neil Forbes 8th Jan 2015
| | Yes, but not the Australian Super Bad compilation, I'm fairly sure of that much. And as you say, R.C., the issue of Rock Explosion is around November, 1973, so yes, it could well be the last under the Majestic brand. |
Record Collector 8th Jan 2015
| | Looking at the label it's the last album to come under majestic |
Record Collector 8th Jan 2015
| | There are three tracks that could have been on the super bad album |
Neil Forbes 8th Jan 2015
| | You've picked a song I particularly liked as well. I think this was John J. Francis's only big hit. He recorded for RCA in the late 60s as part of a duo or trio, The John Francis collexion(spelled deliberately with an 'X') but had no success. |

| | Play mama play sing me a song that you sing along time ago now you done it Neil look what you made me do loved that song i think this album released around November that year |

| | When I said this might lay claim to first non-20-hits title, I was, of course, only guessing. R.C. has the details!. And R.C., what would your pick of the tracks be? For me it's Free Electric Band, Swamp Witch, Cover Of Rolling Stone, Venus and Play Mumma, Sing Me A Song. The last-named was written and recorded by a fellow who hails from the Lake MacQuarie region, just south of Newcastle, NSW. |

Neil Forbes 8th Jan 2015
| | Took me three goes to get the back cover the right geometric size and file size in megabytes(whew!). Sorry' bout the condition of the back cover, a much-used album! Also there's an ever-so-slight discolouration on the Side B label.
What do you make of this one, Record Collector? Have you a copy tucked away down there in your vault? |
