23skidoo 24th Feb 2019		Review Although most compilation albums are pretty standard, this one stands out as pretty unique, at least for its day, in that it combined tracks from three of Haley's recording eras, that somehow UK-based Topline got the rights to put together, with tracks from the 1952-53 era recorded for Essex, a couple of the best known Decca sides, and then several tracks taken from Haley's final album from 1979 which was recorded for Sonet Records. Even today such a mix is rare (in part because while public domain rules in the EU are making it possible to mix Essex and Decca tracks, and possibly even some of the early-60s material for Warner Bros and other labels, the Sonet tracks are still firmly under copyright as most of them date from the 1970s). Good selection of tracks too; in particular the 1979 Sonet album was a bit hit-and-miss, but some of its best tracks are included here, and even coming out only 5 years later as this collection did, the album had already faded into obscurity, making these "new" for a lot of listeners. 6 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
