@David Whiteley, nice one, my sleeve had a nasty sticker tear to the front as well. Nice to see a decent one

With acknowledgement to Quad5point1 better envelope sleeve added. This one has still got the retail re-order tag attached.
Also added detail of the envelope flap with tag.

Interesting tidbit about the man pointing the revolver with pith helmet being changed. I was unaware (before reading this) about this. Apparently this was never altered on album releases in the U.S., however, on CD release the second cover was used 820 211-2. Belated thanks to ady_lister. Another example of how cool this site is!

It took me fifteen years to find this song, as I remembered this tremendous ballad that I knew was a Moody Blues song, but my continual sampling of the opening seconds of their tracks when MP3s became available yielded nothing...

turned out it was hiding in another more frenetic song of theirs; Bloomin' Moodies! Mad as a bag-o-spanners!

Just found another copy with different labels again. Different font this time

Added scans for label variants. 'A' Side Label has publisher credits to the left instead of under the track list and the catalogue number on side 2 has no extra characters in it. I've also added a scan for the front of the original envelope sleeve with the flap. My copy has a price sticker tear and isn't the best example in the world so if anybody else has it please add it on.

I'm not sure, I've only ever seen UK copies with the Pith Helmet man. The story is recounted in QoB Deluxe Edition Liner Notes. The cover artist Phil Travers had innocently enough used a photograph from a National Geographic magazine he had lying round as inspiration. But it seems Blashford-Snell realised and sued Decca for image rights in the UK and Decca were forced to put a black square over the face of offending copies till it could be re-released. Blashford-Snell then found out that London Records for the USA release had also used his image on their sleeve and successfully sued them as well...

Interesting piece of info. When did they amend the image?

The man on the rear pointing the revolver is John Blashford-Snell a famous old school style British Explorer. He objected to the use of his image on the cover and it was later amended to a man without a pith helmet.

Catalogue number for this should be THS 3 - the XZAL number is one of the side matrix numbers.
