The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Special features pretty much ported over from those found on the earlier DVD editions like this one.
When watching the special features you can see clips of how the film ought to have looked had they not messed around with the colours.

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - MGM
Great version. This DVD restores most of the cut scenes, and the colours and sound are just perfect...... unlike the 2020 'remastered' UK Blu-ray with it's shockingly bad saturated colours.

Finally a genuine official UK release with the full participation of the original creators, so throw away your old dodgy DVD / VHS copies.

The Graduate - Studiocanal
I can't remember a leopard being in the movie, however I do note that the most synonymous/associated image - the one with the stocking'ed leg - has been relegated to a small trimmed picture on the back cover. I suppose this is to pacify the tedious uptight people who would never want to watch this movie at all.

I decided to scan the labels without removing the inner sleeve. I did this because my other very rare Weltklang record got covered in dust after scanning with inner sleeve removed. Very annoying.

The photocopy on the back cover has some text "exil-system 20-19", I cannot determine if that indicates a release date or a supposed cat number. There are other versions of this LP, a few were cut on lathe and have a different cat number.
Super limited as per usual from the artist.

I transcribed the details from the insert, text sometimes differs on the record labels.
eg the Ron Pate track on side 4 is called "Fun In The Fundus" on the label.

Unusual sleeve added, probably a test pressing, it is embossed but there is no printing on the sleeve (note the yellow bits on the back are from rubbing next to the Different Kind Of Tension LP) .

Various Artists - Superstars Of The 70's
I got this compilation in an auction joblot, about 30 years ago, and its been in storage ever since.
You can see by the track listing this is definitely an American overview, and somewhat lacking the exciting sounds coming from the UK at the time, so no Bowie, no T.Rex, no glam basically, all of the sounds that would eventually lead to punk (by that I mean British punk).

Dark Star - Fabulous Films
This Blu-ray includes 2 versions of the film: the 83m theatrical version and the 73m director's cut, however only the theatrical version has been remastered. The director's cut is definitely the better one for pace and sustaining interest as the extra minutes in the theatrical version are really just filler to make the film length acceptable for cinema distribution; however the image quality is way below that of the remastered theatrical version.

The extras include a very good 2 hour documentary which mostly uses interviews from people involved in making the film. John Carpenter is represented by a muffled taped interview recorded by a researcher many years ago (thankfully subtitled), but Dan O'Bannon died in 2009 so his wife speaks on his behalf.

The documentary reveals that once they had left college and got external financing, much of the acting in the original student version was ditched in favour of reshooting with better sets and scripting. The character of Talby seems to have been added later hence why he doesn't actually share the frame with another actor, likewise the dead captain. The experience was a big wake up call for John Carpenter, it did not open doors as he expected and consequently he is now dismissive of the whole thing.

Still though I think it remains a good effort.

Various Artists - With Love
Quite a good compilation this one.
The original LP is dominated by Byrds-like harmony numbers, particularly from The Wildflower, and punctuated by a few garage fuzz tunes, and I will be honest to say that it was the latter fuzz which made me buy it. Happily the bonus tracks help even out the balance.
I have heard several of the tracks before from appearances on other compilations but the sound quality here is up quite a few notches better.
Still available direct from Ace/Big Beat.

Ilsa The Wicked Warden (2.31m)

Blade Runner: The Final Cut - Warner Bros.
Just found some old notes that I wrote a few years ago in an email regarding this 'Final Cut':

I eventually did get the DVD and had a side by side comparison of what the changes were, some were really geeky like he changed the serial number on the snakeskin when looking through the microscope. The dove flying off at the end, now has a completely different backdrop instead of looking like a factory wall in an industrial estate, but the resolution has radically dropped so you see a pixelated dove instead. Generally I don't care much for the new dark & contrast look of the final cut, massive amounts of detail are lost, oh and the one sweary f-word has been replaced by "father". I also noticed that the editing has been done in blocks of approx. 10 mins each so looking at the two versions side by side the new version gets out of step when additional scenes are added then judders back into step as scenes are trimmed down. The chase scene at the end has a lot of resequencing. The soundtrack is much improved. The much touted 'extra minutes' are rather disappointingly about 3 minutes of extra rolling credits at the end.
I think I prefer the old directors cut, because it looks better and most of the additional scenes on the new 'final cut' don't really add anything or are just scenes that have their order sequenced differently. The dove flying off does look hokey though.

10/10 for presentation, 2/10 for the supposed remastering job - these are the worst sounding CDs ever, and long suffering fans of the band have had to endure some rotten ones !

Forbidden Planet (1956)
Review
An outstanding 1950s sci-fi adventure which borrows from William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and serves up a cautionary tale on scientific experimentation. A scientist uses psycho-kinetic machines developed by the super-advanced ex-inhabitants of the planet to increase his mental capacity, but subconsciously unleashes an actualisation of his very jealous id.

Kate Bush - Never For Ever
Sounds great, though I don't have the original pressing to compare it with but I do own the singles. On the LP version of Army Dreamers the rhythmic sample of the gun being loaded seems to be down in the mix but I cannot remember if that was always the case. Anyway I like this remaster, it has clarity and space and Kate's vocals seem to be even more astonishing than I can remember.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Sound quality is much improved in my opinion, not quite as abrasive, now with defined clarity and space, excellent job.
There are discussions on other websites as to whether Rolf Harris' minor contribution has been replaced or just his credit removed. Any thoughts?

Kate Bush - Lionheart
The packaging tries to recreate the original UK version with a gatefold cover and embossed text, it does not replicate the original plain yellow inner sleeve. The artwork has been reworked, and photoshopped, on the back sleeve the colours are slightly more vibrant and Kate's flesh tones look better, however the hair on the top of her head has been reworked to make it look less wild but its a rushed job. The front cover loses the deep shadows of the original and some of the detail by making the whole image brighter, again I feel this is sloppy work.
