Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
I am disappointed with this pressing because of the presence of sibilance on some of Kate's high notes, this is the first time I played the vinyl, and it was brand new from the sealed box set. Immediately afterwards I played my original UK pressing and there is no such problem on that version.

The packaging tries to recreate the original UK version and has a high gloss finished cover, the original was laminated. The artwork has been slightly reworked, and photoshopped, colours might be slightly more vibrant but details have been lost (check the dragon on Kate's kite). The lyrics on the rear are whiter and easier to read, the song titles have different spacing.

I've just noticed that on the front cover of many original worldwide pressings the thin black border before the brown border is missing.

Fairly fragile book. Not something you would want to bend open and stick on a scanner for some random pest.

Jean-Pierre Melville - Optimum World
Very good boxset, though I don't own it since I already had the individual titles. Somewhat annoying for me to see Le Cercle Rouge has the original French language with English subtitles since the separate DVD that I bought has a bad English dub.

La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) (1969)
Also known as The Swimming Pool, or The Sinners. There are two versions of the film, one shot with mostly French dialogue and the other with English dialogue (with some nuances lost in the translation).

La Piscine - M6 Vidéo
Really disappointed that this 2017 DVD was listed on Amazon as having English language options - it does not; the only option is French language. The DVD producers don't even provide French subtitles for the English dialogue bits in the film.
Typical French lousiness.

A very inventive short, it is included as a bonus on the 'Heller als der Mond' (Brighter Than the Moon) DVD. I would like to see more by director Virgil Widrich but it is difficult to track down DVDs.

Tom And Jerry Golden Collection Volume Un - Warner Home Video
The uncensored Tom & Jerry Golden Collection has been available in USA for a few years and it doesn't look like it will ever get released in the UK, probably due to the PC brigade. Hurrah then for the French who did release it, and so far, from what I've seen, the cartoons are indeed uncensored.
Now the thing about Tom & Jerry is that the extreme violence and the dangerous things the duo get up to (like with electrical sockets) are probably more objectionable than the racial sight gags and the smoking (which as examples are the scenes most often cut). Unfortunately it doesn't look like we will get any more volumes in the near future because objections about content have apparently been raised.
The restoration on the cartoons does look great, there is a Blu-ray available in the USA and that should look amazing. The only problem I can see with the French DVD is that some of the titles are sized at 640x480 and some are sized at 480x360 and have a large black border (see screenshot of the 'Kitty Foiled' title) so I don't know what went wrong there.
The French booklet gives the French titles (which true to form are some lazy and uninspired efforts) but the DVD menus will play entirely in English with the correct titles if your player is set accordingly.

Puss Gets The Boot (1940)
The first Tom & Jerry cartoon, or actually not, since they hadn't established an identity yet and Mammy Two Shoes calls the cat 'Jasper'. The title banner is "Puss Gets The Boot" coming after the MGM logo and Rudolf Isling credit, no "Tom & Jerry" banner.

Blanche - Arrow
The first 5 Borowczyk Bluray/DVD titles published by Arrow were being offered in a limited boxset along with a thick book on the directors work, special pre-release order price £80 (I think), so I quickly placed my order and got the confirmation. However, the boxset was delayed, and the titles got released individually, and the boxset was still delayed, and the individual titles had been out a while and were starting to get discounted, and the boxset was yet still delayed, and the individual titles were now in danger of being deleted, and did I say the boxset was still delayed, and then the individual titles hit the Fopp shelves at around £8 each, and the boxset STILL hadn't arrived. I cancelled my order and bought the individual titles from Fopp, and just in the nick of time as they were getting deleted. But what about that boxset, the one that was supposed to have been available before the individual titles got released, ...well I did hear that it eventually got released and people now try to sell it on ebay for quite a few £££, but why shell out just to get a book.

Possibly Borowczyk's finest work, the attention to creating the fine details in this period piece is just perfect. And there is hardly any nudity in it.

The Big Heat [1953] - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Since this disc is already added to the database (twice), I feel that adding details again is just a duplication of work. The only thing that really changes on these European (region 2) DVDs from major distributors such as Sony is the slip, in this case with the text in English. When you put the disc in the dvd player it is going to ask you to select a country, of course it is, it's the same disc that is packaged whichever country you purchase it in!

Contes Immoraux - Arrow
The bonus features promises to include both versions of the scandalous documentary about vintage erotic artefacts "A Private Collection (1973)". Known as the Oberhausen cut the uncensored version includes animation/photos of banned sexual practices, however it seems that Arrow were unable to get this passed by the BBFC without censorship, so instead we are presented with the full length version but with a blanked out screen whenever an offending image is due to appear.
Note: the accompanying bonus interviews and features reveal that many of the 'vintage' erotic artefacts are nothing of the sort because they were made by Mr Borowczyk himself, however he had such skill in craftsmanship that the items do actually look genuine.

El Sol Del Membrillo (The Quince Tree Sun) (1992)
Not really a documentary, more like an observation. Over a number of days/weeks Antonio López tries to make a meticulously accurate painting of the quince tree in his garden, people visit and there are discussions about art and life in general, and the weather causes him problems as he particularly wants to capture the patterns of sunlight. The painting never really gets finished but the artist seems happy just to be painting, the film is likewise.

Robbery - Network
Robbery is restored from the original film elements and presented in the correct 1.66:1 picture format.
The bonus film "The Great British Train Robbery" is the cut-down cinema release of the German TV mini-series Die Gentlemen Bitten Zur Kasse, it is the English dubbed version and is still watchable despite being in relatively poor shape (the original film elements are lost).
