| albert 6th Aug 2019 | The uncensored Tom & Jerry Golden Collection has been available in USA for a few years and it doesn't look like it will ever get released in the UK, probably due to the PC brigade. Hurrah then for the French who did release it, and so far, from what I've seen, the cartoons are indeed uncensored. Now the thing about Tom & Jerry is that the extreme violence and the dangerous things the duo get up to (like with electrical sockets) are probably more objectionable than the racial sight gags and the smoking (which as examples are the scenes most often cut). Unfortunately it doesn't look like we will get any more volumes in the near future because objections about content have apparently been raised. The restoration on the cartoons does look great, there is a Blu-ray available in the USA and that should look amazing. The only problem I can see with the French DVD is that some of the titles are sized at 640x480 and some are sized at 480x360 and have a large black border (see screenshot of the 'Kitty Foiled' title) so I don't know what went wrong there. The French booklet gives the French titles (which true to form are some lazy and uninspired efforts) but the DVD menus will play entirely in English with the correct titles if your player is set accordingly. | |
