albert 18th May 2019 | | DVDThe Killers [1946] - Koch Media | Great picture and sound. I had the original Criterion double DVD but found the picture a little too bright and the sound was very hissy, I had the UK Film Noir 'cigarette' boxset version and found the picture a little dark, I had a good one from Denmark which I would have kept if I hadn't got this one (it came in a boxset). So this is my preferred DVD.

albert 7th May 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Stupid Set - Soul Of Trade | Despite the order of the tracks given on the cover I cannot say for certain if it is correct.
The labels list the tracks in a pie chart format, timings are not indicated, instead it gives you percentages. This in itself is a bit annoying but for the wackiness factor some people might think it is a cool idea. Unfortunately mixed between the proper tracks are what they call 'scrambler tracks', which is basically them just messing around with tv & radio samples/ambient noise/studio noodling, and to make things worse there are no gaps between, so everything just merges and overlaps, one segment into the next.
Its not easy listening to the LP as the 'scrambler tracks' get irritating, but even so I endured it, however judging by the lyrics I think that a couple of tracks are on the other side to the side that they are supposed to be on. So in the end I just gave up.

albert 7th May 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumDevo - Miracle Witness Hour | Several coloured vinyl pressings exist, mine is white vinyl identified by the sticker which reads "ULTIMATE VIRGIN Coloured Vinyl".
Other pressings include one in red translucent vinyl with glitter - which is best avoided since the glitter adds surface noise like a bad case of dust in the grooves (this appropriately named HOT DUST on the sticker).

albert 7th May 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Girls [Boston] - Girls Reunion | "The Girls" sticker is in dayglo orange but the scanner had difficulty capturing the colour. The other sticker is a random one, it will be different for each LP, the stickers are on the shrink-wrapping so secondhand LPs may have lost them.

albert 6th May 2019 | | BookDavid 1904 - Discographie Vinyl Du Rock Français | ReviewThe book appears to be pretty comprehensive on documenting what the author set out to do, which is to list every vinyl record released by French bands between 1977 and 2000 which fall broadly into a 'rock' category. It doesn't keep strictly to it's definition, there are examples of overspill on the dates in that listed reissues and compilations tend to stretch beyond 2000 and I think it also lists records by French bands that got released outside of France. The book skips all of the boring info, the listings tend to just give the briefest description of what a band sounds like, and then lists their releases (many with pictures). Recommended

albert 6th May 2019 | | BookDavid 1904 - Discographie Vinyl Du Rock Français | The author gives very little away about himself, he just writes 7 lines then signs off as "David 1904", and the publishers details are equally brief.
I uploaded some images of pages from the book, if you are fairly experienced at judging records by their covers/song titles/band names then this book is just enough for what you need, you can easily check out a record online, youtube, bandcamp, even retailers like amazon will give you more info and maybe a sound sample.
Here is the publisher's punk rock website 'Euthanasie Records', there is a comment about the massive archive needing to be scanned (I know the feeling).
The book should cost 30 Euros, it may be available on the website above, else try some of the better record shops in France, I got mine from Born Bad in Paris.

albert 6th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - Sunny Sundae Smile | There are counterfeit/pirated copies of this record so beware.
This is the last release with original singer David Conway and
something of a diversion into poppier territory for MBV:

albert 6th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - The New Record By My Bloody Valentine | The third vinyl record by MBV and the trademark sound is beginning to come through, especially on the first track Lovelee Sweet Darlene. The plea on this sleeve (also noted on Geek) "Turn treble and volume up" may indicate that the band knew what sound they wanted but were finding it difficult to get the desired result on record.

albert 6th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - GEEK! | My scanner did not captured the orange colour too well so I have attempted to make a colour adjustment in photoshop and uploaded the results, still not perfect but the best I can do.
|
albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - Strawberry Wine | Added some scans of a genuine original Lazy Records pressing.
My scanner cannot capture the whole image so these are composites, however there are only a couple of tiny slithers of information missing on both images, and these are missing on the right side of the top-right corner, and on the left side of the bottom-left corner.
Pirate copies do exist, so be careful, the subtle colours of the text would be very difficult for a counterfeiter to match exactly. If you play a pirated copy and then play the genuine original record you will notice a great difference in sound quality.
I believe that one of the tracks on this EP is slightly different to the one used for the Ecstasy And Wine compilation.

albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - GEEK! | Geek! was the second vinyl record by MBV, I don't think it is terrible (unlike Sunny Sunday Smile), but the band sound had definitely changed over the course of a year.
Quantities of this record suddenly appeared around the time the band signed to Creation, though I do not think this record was re-pressed because most of Fever's back catalogue also suddenly appeared in boxfuls. What I think happened was that the label (or distributers) had gone bust and then, after a while of nothing happening, the stock in the warehouse was liquidated and made its brief reappearance in record fairs up and down the country. Do be wary of counterfeits, the record has been pirated in recent years.
Collectors note that the orange sleeve fades to yellow quite alarmingly, the spine on my copy has lost almost all of its colour.

albert 5th May 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumMy Bloody Valentine - This Is Your Bloody Valentine | My Bloody Valentine when they had just began, and sounding quite psychobilly in a Cramps/Birthday Party kind of style. Not a terrible start, but don't expect MBV of the Creation era.
I uploaded scans of the Dossier later pressing, I have to say that the popsike picture looks very suspect, note: all of MBV's rarities have been pirated/bootlegged.

albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - Tremolo EP | Much as I hate to get into train-spotter territory, the Tremolo EP came with a black poly-lined bag, just a standard bag used on other French pressings from Creation, nothing special.

albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - Glider EP | Much as I hate to get into train-spotter territory, the Glider Ep came with a black poly-lined bag, just a standard bag used on other French pressings from Creation, nothing special.
|
albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise | Matt card cover added, this single was kept in press for quite a while so slight variants are inevitable. The labels on my copy are similar to Darrenst's, the text looks sharper though the grey is more of a lighter colour, maybe with a touch of brown, generally not as high contrast as the ones shown.
|
albert 5th May 2019 | | 12" SingleMy Bloody Valentine - Feed Me With Your Kiss | The 12" was kept in press for quite a while, as MBV kept getting bigger, and there are some variants on the blue/green/grey hues being used. The scans I have uploaded are of an early pressing with a shiny linen textured sleeve, and the scanner failed to get the colours exact (mine is actually more green-ish than the blue-ish ones you see here).
The labels on my copy are like Darrenst's except the text is sharper and is in a slightly grey colour instead of black.
EDIT: I have attempted to make some colour adjustments to my pictures in photoshop and uploaded the results, still not perfect but the closer to the what they should be (ie more greenish).
