Yes, the series was inaugurated with the reissue of an RCA Victor original cast LP .....

This is similar to the catalog folders included with US Elektra LPs throughout the 1960s. The UK catalogues had the added benefit of listing singles, which the US copies never did.

Label scans [images #3447669, 3447670] added.

This album was one of several Elektra titles scheduled to be re-released in stereo, acc. to an article in Billboard's 29 Feb 1960 edition. If my '69 / '70 red label (mono) copy is anything to go on, this never happened.

Interesting, good to know ... both Queens Litho. and Progressive Label & Litho. are also credited in that Elektra 10th Anniversary ad., as is Sonic Recording Products (Hicksville, L.I.), another custom pressing firm.

The Incredible String Band - The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion
What's the deal with "The Mad Hatter's Song" vs. "The Eyes Of Fate"? Some labels show the titles at A4 and A6, other show them at A6 and A4.

This test pressing was sold to me in a plain white LP cover. The "Midnight Jazz Session" title apparently was added, in error, at a later time. I purchased this and another Abbey test pressing some 20 years or so ago mainly as a means of identifying their pressings.

Abbey Record Mfg. (East Newark, NJ) was still pressing vinyl LPs for Elektra into 1960, as credited in a two-page ad. spread in Billboard for Elektra's 10th Anniversary in Oct. 1960.

Michael Moorcock - The Oak And The Ram
I've been wondering if the 'backward h' might be a control character for machine-readable text, used at a time (1970s) before digital scanners and computers became ubiquitous. I have a number of Berkley books whose covers bear the same monospace type font for the book number.

The '425-02534-075' no. isn't really an ISBN ... it appears to have been adapted from the SBN for retail inventory purposes. The ISBN-10 as shown is possibly correct for this title, but I'm dubious that it was actually assigned to this edition.

mod edit: ISBN-10 removed

Thanks, 23skidoo, as with my comments for "From Russia, With Love", AFAIK Pan did not publish in the USA. I have a a dozen or so Pan paperbacks in my accumulation, but those I purchased in the USA are UK editions, either used, or import copies.

Thanks for that info. While I have seen a number of Signet Canadian printings, I wasn't certain whether Signet/NAL's deal with either MacMillan or Glidrose Productions included Canada.

I don't think that Pan had a US presence ... Fleming's 007 paperbacks were published by Signet in the USA (and presumably Canada) in the 1960s.

Di Fate's artistic style is more easily recognized (IMO) in his spaceship paintings. His painting for the Jack Vance Throy cover is typical, and shows his signature similar to the upper half here. Some of his covers have been tagged.

The dust jacket (and title page) design is a variation of the yin-yang design ... which, after owning this copy for some 20 years, escaped my notice till editing the images this past week.

Richard Collier - The Great Indian Mutiny
Thanks for the response. I think that Ignatiev's supposed involvement in the Sepoy mutiny was an invention, however inspired, in George Macdonald Fraser's well-researched novel, Flashman in the Great Game.

Apparently, adding an 'English title' for an English language entry via Add Missing Info. is not an option, although you could do so via Make Correction.

This looks interesting ... I wonder if it mentions Count Ignatiev's (alleged *) involvement in (IIRC) instigating the rumor concerning the ingredients in the cartridge grease.

* This may be just a literary invention.

Jack Vance - The Languages Of Pao
As mentioned elsewhere, the number, "47401" appears to be incorrect, and more likely 'should have' been "47041", as this fits better with Ace's then new numbering scheme, which was based alphabetically by title.
