annaloog 27th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumRobert Kreis - The Elektra Library Of Dramatic Cue Music & Mood Music Volume 1 | Yes, the series was inaugurated with the reissue of an RCA Victor original cast LP .....
annaloog 26th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - What's Shakin' | This is similar to the catalog folders included with US Elektra LPs throughout the 1960s. The UK catalogues had the added benefit of listing singles, which the US copies never did.
annaloog 24th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumGlenn Yarbrough And Marilyn Child - Sing Folk Songs | Label scans [images #3447669, 3447670] added.
This album was one of several Elektra titles scheduled to be re-released in stereo, acc. to an article in Billboard's 29 Feb 1960 edition. If my '69 / '70 red label (mono) copy is anything to go on, this never happened.
annaloog 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJosh White - Sings Ballads — Blues | Interesting, good to know ... both Queens Litho. and Progressive Label & Litho. are also credited in that Elektra 10th Anniversary ad., as is Sonic Recording Products (Hicksville, L.I.), another custom pressing firm.
annaloog 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Incredible String Band - The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion | What's the deal with "The Mad Hatter's Song" vs. "The Eyes Of Fate"? Some labels show the titles at A4 and A6, other show them at A6 and A4.
annaloog 23rd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJosh White - Sings Ballads — Blues | This test pressing was sold to me in a plain white LP cover. The "Midnight Jazz Session" title apparently was added, in error, at a later time. I purchased this and another Abbey test pressing some 20 years or so ago mainly as a means of identifying their pressings.
Abbey Record Mfg. (East Newark, NJ) was still pressing vinyl LPs for Elektra into 1960, as credited in a two-page ad. spread in Billboard for Elektra's 10th Anniversary in Oct. 1960.
annaloog 21st Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Capitol Stereo Demonstration Record | PRO 548 / PRO 551 dates to March 1958. I have removed the Mar date here.

annaloog 16th Dec 2023 | | 12" SingleThe Mighty Gryner - "T" (Let Me Go) | Presumably, the same artist as Grynner.
annaloog 13th Dec 2023 | | BookVarious Authors - Time Untamed | ??? I don't see Ivan Howard's name credited.
annaloog 13th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Current Hits Volume No. 23 | Artist names were identified by their 45 rpm singles, linked via the 45cat tag, Compilation: Current Hits Vol. 23.
annaloog 9th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFive By Five - Next Exit | Cropped and more accurately-tinted (pale pink) label scans added; acknowledgment to Steve Carp.
annaloog 7th Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFerrante And Teicher - Golden Piano Hits | The newly added multicolor label variant is a Columbia pressing, with stamped matrix numbers WWS 8505A-1D / WWS 8505B-1A
annaloog 2nd Dec 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumRex Garvin And The Mighty Cravers - Raw Funky Earth | Promo copies (as with images #3431505 and 3431506) were not pressed by Capitol - typical factory marks are absent. Runout inscriptions for the sides:
ST 1-5130 B-10994
ST 2-5130 B 10995
annaloog 19th Nov 2023 | | BookMichael Moorcock - The Oak And The Ram | I've been wondering if the 'backward h' might be a control character for machine-readable text, used at a time (1970s) before digital scanners and computers became ubiquitous. I have a number of Berkley books whose covers bear the same monospace type font for the book number.
The '425-02534-075' no. isn't really an ISBN ... it appears to have been adapted from the SBN for retail inventory purposes. The ISBN-10 as shown is possibly correct for this title, but I'm dubious that it was actually assigned to this edition.
mod edit: ISBN-10 removed

annaloog 1st Nov 2023 | | BookIan Fleming - Casino Royale | Thanks, 23skidoo, as with my comments for "From Russia, With Love", AFAIK Pan did not publish in the USA. I have a a dozen or so Pan paperbacks in my accumulation, but those I purchased in the USA are UK editions, either used, or import copies.
annaloog 1st Nov 2023 | | BookIan Fleming - From Russia, With Love | Thanks for that info. While I have seen a number of Signet Canadian printings, I wasn't certain whether Signet/NAL's deal with either MacMillan or Glidrose Productions included Canada.
annaloog 29th Oct 2023 | | BookIan Fleming - Casino Royale | Note the back cover: the "60c" is the price in Australia.
annaloog 29th Oct 2023 | | BookIan Fleming - From Russia, With Love | I don't think that Pan had a US presence ... Fleming's 007 paperbacks were published by Signet in the USA (and presumably Canada) in the 1960s.
annaloog 23rd Oct 2023 | | BookJohn Crowley - Beasts | Di Fate's artistic style is more easily recognized (IMO) in his spaceship paintings. His painting for the Jack Vance Throy cover is typical, and shows his signature similar to the upper half here. Some of his covers have been tagged.
annaloog 22nd Oct 2023 | | BookJohn Crowley - Beasts | From what I can see, it resembles Vincent Di Fate's signature, followed by a '00 (two-digit year).
annaloog 13th Oct 2023 | | BookJames Blish - Galactic Cluster | Additional images uploaded; acknowledgment to davie gordon.
annaloog 13th Oct 2023 | | BookJohn Le Carré - Single & Single | The dust jacket (and title page) design is a variation of the yin-yang design ... which, after owning this copy for some 20 years, escaped my notice till editing the images this past week.
annaloog 3rd Oct 2023 | | BookHymns Ancient And Modern - Hymns Ancient And Modern | The publisher appears to be William Clowes And Sons. Ordinarily, if an author is not credited, the author's name for the entry is '[no author listed]'.
annaloog 3rd Oct 2023 | | BookRichard Collier - The Great Indian Mutiny | Thanks for the response. I think that Ignatiev's supposed involvement in the Sepoy mutiny was an invention, however inspired, in George Macdonald Fraser's well-researched novel, Flashman in the Great Game.
Apparently, adding an 'English title' for an English language entry via Add Missing Info. is not an option, although you could do so via Make Correction.
annaloog 2nd Oct 2023 | | BookRichard Collier - The Great Indian Mutiny | This looks interesting ... I wonder if it mentions Count Ignatiev's (alleged *) involvement in (IIRC) instigating the rumor concerning the ingredients in the cartridge grease.
----------
* This may be just a literary invention.
annaloog 28th Sep 2023 | | BookJack Vance - The Languages Of Pao | As mentioned elsewhere, the number, "47401" appears to be incorrect, and more likely 'should have' been "47041", as this fits better with Ace's then new numbering scheme, which was based alphabetically by title.
annaloog 27th Sep 2023 | | BookPhilip José Farmer - A Private Cosmos | Additional images added.
