bill mann 14th Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMFrankie Lee Sims - Walking With Frankie / Hey Little Girl | I don't think Freddie would have heard of Frankie, never mind hearing the record. After all Thornton's record was a real big seller, with cover versions from all over The States.
bill mann 13th Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMFrankie Lee Sims - Walking With Frankie / Hey Little Girl | Two terrific rockin' sides from the great and vastly underated Frankie Lee Sims.

bill mann 4th Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMBilly Starr - Hound Dog / Borrowed Heart | Surely Elvis based his version on Freddie Bell's cut
bill mann 3rd Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMMemphis Slim And His House Rockers - Messin' Around / Midnight Jump | Slim's best work (IMHO) was for United, with the great Matt Murphy on guitar.

bill mann 19th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Oscar Peterson Trio - Night Train | Here's another needs correcting :- Shouldn't title of B1 be 'Honeydripper' as noted on the label

bill mann 15th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around | I agree, met Johnny a few times in the 60s & 70s, when he was a still big fine chap, to see him in that video was very sad & upsetting to say the least, it almost had me in tears.

bill mann 13th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Wild Original Rock And Roll | Just as an afterthought RC, Is it the top line on the front sleeve that made your spec-savers moment ? It certainly gave me one.
bill mann 13th Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMJohn Lee Hooker And His Guitar - Sally May / Boogie Chillen' | Bill, I agree 100% about remakes, had the Vee-Jay cut on a Stateside EP about 50 years back, and it's also a goodie. Johnny Guitar Watson's recut of 'Gangster of Love' on King in the 60s is the exception to the rule being far better & tougher than his original 50s cut.
bill mann 12th Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMThe Coasters - The Shadow Knows / Sorry But I'm Gonna Have To Pass | tony p, I own a copy, is it a valuable one ?

bill mann 3rd Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLittle Richard - Little Richard Volume 2 | Black label copy with boxed logo on ebay at the moment.
bill mann 29th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumClyde McPhatter - Clyde McPhatter's Greatest Hits | Blimey, They never learn do they, barely any of the 50s rock n rollers ever improved on any of their original cuts. Only one springs to mind, Johnny Guitar Watson's 60s recut of 'Gangster of love, on King, which is far superior to his 50s cut.
I have a cheapo rock n roll cd, bought for the car. All good well known songs, the Sun stuff is fine, but there are about 4 or 5 Little Richard recuts of his Specialty masterpieces which are unbelievably bad with saxes that should be heard behind Otis Redding or Arthur Conley and the like, not good, no solid Specialty style riffing anywhere to be heard.
