"plastic film (not really a sticker)"

It's not really, is it. I'll amend the Notes.

For reference I've got B-2U on Side Two (so SHSP 4111 A-2U, B-2U, 4112 A-1U, B-2U TML-M). However, on a huge selling record like this it would've been pressed in large numbers in advance of release and I personally think that "first pressings" are likely to span a number of matrix variations.

Can't help with the ICE issue, I'm afraid !

From the infallable pages of Wikipedia :

"In advance of its release, technical constraints led to some changes being made to the running order and content of The Wall, with "What Shall We Do Now?" being replaced by the similar but shorter "Empty Spaces", and "Hey You" being moved from its original place at the end of side three, to the beginning. With the November 1979 deadline approaching, the band left the now-incorrect inner sleeves of the album unchanged."

The lyrics "What Shall We Do Now" seem to be an alternate draft to "Empty Spaces", which is just the four lines :

"What shall we do to fill the empty spaces,
Where we used to talk,
How should I fill the final places,
How should I complete the wall..
."[straight into "Young Lust]

Possibly the extra words are from the film soundtrack (which I haven't seen for a good 20 years), or even more (or less ?!) possibly there's a backward/obscured spoken word passage on the lead in to "Empty Spaces", so maybe it's from there ?

Most likely is that they were just extra words that Rog didn't want to see wasted...

Nice work, mlgh224 !

For the cause I've dug out and added my solid prism copy, which has been boxed up for six weeks awaiting an endlessly postponed house move. Don't get me started.

Yes, I think Messrs Rothery, Trewavas, Kelly and even Pointer would've had something to say there ;-)

Anita Kuusi And Karjapojat - Seitsemän Päivää (Seven Lonely Days) / Portugalin Huhtikuu (April In Portugal)
If someone search for "accompaniment" by an orchestra or chorus or whatever, he (she) will use the English word not the Swedish or Finnish for it.

That's why it's useful to have the translation in the notes, so a general search will bring up the answer whether you use English or the language used on the disc.

This is only an English speaking site by default, and the aim ought to be as inclusive for as many different languages as there are different language discs. This disc is as likely to be owned by a Finnish speaker as it is an English speaker, so we should be prepared for the reasonable eventuality that it will be searched for in its native language.

Also, we wouldn't want to start changing what's actually printed on the label in the entry fields, as that really would lead to issues...

Generally speaking people will search for the words that are on the actual label so it's good to use exactly what's printed there, whatever language that may be in. However, the Notes section can be used to point out these translations, and indeed that'd be useful for someone like me who hasn't the faintest clue as to the Finnish language !!

Not to his classical standard, though there are certain family members who've been known to belt out a number or two in a more "popular" fashion (or "Country & Western rubbish", as he'd endearingly condemn anything post-Elvis as !).

L. Macy - To Julia / Eliza Sings
This was disc was made by my Grandfather at a time (mid 1930's ?) when he was considering a career as a professional singer. One of my Uncles remembers :

"..."To Julia: Daisies", composed by Roger Quilter, recorded at the house of Leslie and Lillian's rather wealthy farming friends the Goulds, at Spring Grove in Loughton. The Goulds owned a recording machine, very scarce indeed at the time, decades before tape-recording.
Unfortunately the wax on which the recording was engraved is rather soft, which means that the quality will have seriously deteriorated. When Leslie died, we brothers clubbed together to get the recording transcribed onto tape, but were disappointed with the standard of reproduction (we knew that for the fee we paid, we should have received a much cleaner transcription).
Leslie had a beautiful voice, and was a very fine interpreter of music, but never had the volume to sing professionally -- he had difficulty being heard in quite a small school hall. He was a BBC Singer, which used to be quite a badge of musical status (there were only a dozen or so at any one time). They were expected to sing from manuscript at first sight, with almost no rehearsal, to very high standards indeed.

The blank side of this is a quite glorious etching of "His Master's Voice". I will endeavour to somehow get scans of this up asap, but am reluctant to risk the discs safety with the methods I've used so far.

No, unfortunately it's the standard modern sized label...

KD&L have made a few 78's, I think. In fact ...*checks Discogs*...yes, their first LP actually had a limited edition box set release of 5 x 78rpms !

[record=nc798125uk]I've just added[/record] what I think is a similar disc i.e. it's lacquer on a metal base rather than shellac...an acetate. These were privately cut discs, often for home use but also for demonstration purposes. Somewhere (in the attic, to be precise) I have a disc my Grandad cut in the 1930's while he was singing with the BBC radio choir - he apparently had ambitions at one point of being a professional singer, and it was cut to punt round the industry.

I guess it's much the same practice that was still in operation well into the 70's, before cassette tapes became the easier cheaper option..

Cool - will add to the notes. At least with this modern bendy vinyl I could use your tip of weighing the label down to get a decent scan in. The sleeve won't fit though. New scanner for xmas ? But that'll mean a bigger desk. Bigger desk for xmas ? But that'll mean a bigger room. House for sale, anyone ?

Johnny Duncan And The Blue Grass Boys - Last Train To San Fernando / Rock-A-Billy Baby
My first 78RPM World addition, and a proud one...I love this track. Bee-dee-dee-dee-bam-bam, all galloping horse hair brush snares, urgent washboards and even a rockin' l'il axe solo in the middle, until it chuggingly sloooows down at the end, as it runs out of steam. Super stuff !

Unfortunately, it looks like my scanning abilities are going to be hindered on this site by the fact that 10" 78s don't fit flat on my A4 sized scanner, so they're going to come out a bit blurred. Sorry in advance.
