Fokeman 13th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMotörhead - No Sleep 'til Hammersmith | I've got a feeling that although these red labels were made in France, it was actually for the UK market. If it was made late on, UK labels used France to make their records to be sold in the UK. The French issue would have been on the yellow Bronze label with SACEM rights collection badge.
(Red labels now moved to the UK version) Note that the French issue never had BRON as a prefix.

Fokeman 13th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMotörhead - Beer Drinkers | This is a duplicate which was originally created in 2014. The two have now been merged.
Fokeman 13th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMartin Winsor, Redd Sullivan, Hosts Of The Troubadour And Friends - The Troubadour | I still remember buying my copy of this in London in Cheapo-Cheapo Records on Rupert Street. It was a record shop you'd never forget. This was chucked onto the shelves at £1.99 with the price being written in a scrawled hand on the top right hand corner in biro...
Cheapo-Cheapo Records
Fokeman 12th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumPlanxty - Cold Blow And The Rainy Night | (slightly later?) alternative label exists on a non-paper surface.
Fokeman 7th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMartin Winsor, Redd Sullivan, Hosts Of The Troubadour And Friends - The Troubadour | This Ian Campbell is probably the Stealers Wheel Ian Campbell who sang and played most of the time as Iain Campbell.
Fokeman 7th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - La Grande Storia Del Rock | A8 should be "I wish I could shimmy like my sister Kate"
Fokeman 6th May 2023 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - African And Afro-American Drums | The last label which is a variant which adds USA to the end of the address, has the same font size as the B side label, which has a different font size from its companion label from the other side. Also, only the B side actually shows the address of the label at the time.
Fokeman 6th May 2023 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - African And Afro-American Drums | The dates are 1954 and then a reissue in 1962. I have a booklet for each disc with the two different dates showing, one on each booklet. To cap that, the rear of sleeve date is 1956, which only serves to further complicate the matter.
Fokeman 27th Apr 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Macedonian Folk Dances Volume II | Desperately trying to avoid making jokes about a "Heavy Crossing Dance"
Fokeman 25th Apr 2023 | | CD AlbumHedgehog Pie - Hedgehog Pie | It seems that this is entirely unofficial, given their woeful spelling of the record's producer Geoff Heslop, here spelled "Jeff Heslop" and previously spelled Geoff Hislop (confusion with Private Eye editor Ian Hislop?) in the notes for this CD release.
Fokeman 22nd Apr 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMichael Hanly, Mícheál O'Donnell - Celtic Folkweave | Two of these tracks were made available on compilations where the tracks were also credited to "Munroe". These tracks have now been linked to the name "Munroe" with this LP.
Fokeman 13th Apr 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumStockton's Wing - Light In The Western Sky | Does that mean they are playable?
Fokeman 10th Apr 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFleetwood Mac - The Pious Bird Of Good Omen | Same as UK issue but slightly different label layout on the Blue Horizon labels.
My copy was sold originally in Belgium but made in Holland.
Fokeman 1st Apr 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Vertigo Annual 1970 | Within the space of time when the first issue swirl label was sold, this went from shillings, then pounds and pence and even went as high as £2.75 (55/-) on the blue sticker. I'll put my front cover sleeve up with this sticker on it, when I can.
Fokeman 26th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJudas Priest - Hero, Hero | I think these labels are from about 1983 as PRT became the new distributor. Pye Records was the original distributor...
Fokeman 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Prime Cuts | There's no information on the sleeve but this beautiful woodcut is by the master of his genre Thomas Bewick The original is still viewable at the V & A Museum
Fokeman 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJudas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny | Yes, it should be Decca distribution (Decca inner sleeve too) and on the blue Gull label.
I believe that these coloured labels were issued in about 1983 as they reissued several different LPs with PRT as distributors.
Fokeman 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Clancy Brothers And Tommy Makem - The Best Of The Clancy Bros. And Tommy Makem | This is a duplicate and will be removed (both versions now merged)
Fokeman 18th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Negro Prison Songs From The Mississippi State Penitentiary | These images are for a much later issue which came out after the buy out of Tradition by Everest. The prefix became TR for Tradition Records whereas it was TLP for the original issues. We perhaps need to create a separate listing given the different label and catalogue number prefix.
On second thoughts, they were using the same graphics and kept the TLP number on the sleeve. We'll just wait until the images for the first issue come along.
Fokeman 12th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Blessings - Galaxy High | The other record on the label currently has LP at the end of the catalogue number. This one doesn't! I think that is for a reason...
Fokeman 12th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Blessings - Galaxy High | Can you check this as it seems that it is regarded as a 6 track ep. Does it play at 45rpm?
Fokeman 12th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJosephine Keegan - Irish Traditional Music | The label was repeating a design that they also used for The Quinn Family See here
Fokeman 12th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Quinn Family - Music From The Glens | The label was repeating a design that they also used for Josephine Keegan See here
Fokeman 12th Mar 2023 | | CD AlbumShanachie - The Essence Of Ireland | Disappointing that there are no song credits for either Pete St. John or Ralph McTell and several other composers for that matter...
Fokeman 4th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Rhythm Of Resistance | In my experience there was lots of trade between Canada and the USA. Shanachie is and was a very USA company. However they did a lot of their manufacturing in Canada. There is no doubt that these records were sold both sides of the border but it might be best to group them all under the US flag since that was where the company was based. This is not denying that they were sold and distributed (and even manufactured) in Canada.
Fokeman 25th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumAlice Cooper - From The Inside | My copy came with a sticker to the rear with title, artist name and catalogue number.
Fokeman 23rd Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - The Incomparable Connie Francis | MS 603 is not an alternative Australian Catalogue number. It was the catalogue number when the record was issued in New Zealand. The sleeve clearly states that this is the Australian issue and the Australian catalogue number is K 104, as it says on the label.
Fokeman 21st Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Laictin Naofa Ceili Band - Come To An Irish Dance Party | Unlike the Dublin Records LP with the same tracks, on this record the label decided to simply call the group "The Milltown Malbay Ceili Band" which is not really correct at all, as that was not their name. Although they were a Ceili Band from Milltown Malbay.
Fokeman 19th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMWilliam Starr - Set Of Jigs: Intro / Kenmuirs On An Awa' / Peter Baillie's Wife / Teviot Bridge / Set Of Irish Hornpipes: Intro / The Wonder / The Trumpet Hornpipe / The Locomotive Hornpipe | Perfect, thanks for that Wes. We'll call it 1951 then.
Fokeman 19th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Now For Some Real Irish Music | Whilst the cover image is indubitably a picture of Irish Traditional Music, the piper advertised being Felix Doran, it's a little disappointing to note that they used a picture of Dan O'Dowd playing his pipes, with John Kelly playing fiddle, rather than any of the other artists mentioned.
