Fokeman 19th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Now For Some Real Irish Music | Whilst the cover image is indubitably a picture of Irish Traditional Music, the piper advertised being Felix Doran, it's a little disappointing to note that they used a picture of Dan O'Dowd playing his pipes, with John Kelly playing fiddle, rather than any of the other artists mentioned.

Fokeman 19th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMWilliam Starr - Set Of Jigs: Intro / Kenmuirs On An Awa' / Peter Baillie's Wife / Teviot Bridge / Set Of Irish Hornpipes: Intro / The Wonder / The Trumpet Hornpipe / The Locomotive Hornpipe | Circa 1952 / 1953

Fokeman 11th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumEwan MacColl With Peggy Seeger, Jimmy MacGregor And John Cole - Barrack Room Ballads | This LP was later to be found incorporated into a 12" LP Bundook Ballads
Fokeman 30th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Renbourn - Faro Annie | Perfect example of how language errors can occur. "Fard Annie" and the title of Willie D'Winsbury instead of Willie O' Winsbury.
Fokeman 30th Jan 2023 | | CD AlbumClannad - Fuaim | I think this was issued by Castle Communications in Australia despite the TARA on the booklet and insert. It was licensed by Tara to Castle Communications Australasia.
Fokeman 22nd Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - John Babbacombe Lee | Yes, it's interesting that they did this. I didn't know that before...
Fokeman 15th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - Nine | I think Music de Pegg should be Music D. Pegg. as in Music D. Swarbrick rather than Music de Swarbrick on the other side.
Fokeman 8th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumLinda Thompson - One Clear Moment | Usually when you "quote" a title it is expected to be correct... "Les Trois Beaux Oiseaux De Paradis" would be correct not "Les Trois Beaux du Paradis", which translates as the three good-looking guys from THE paradise rather than the three birds of paradise. In five years, one person thought this was a Helpful Review. I suggest it may have been the reviewer himself. I think that says it all...
Fokeman 8th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - John Babbacombe Lee | The catalogue number here is completely wrong. ILPS 9176 was the correct issue number.
Fokeman 8th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumSandy Denny - Like An Old Fashioned Waltz | Released in May 1974 according to the Fairport Tour Sampler of 1975. They're probably correct...
Fokeman 8th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - What We Did On Our Holidays | Released in January 1969 according to the Fairport Tour Sampler.
Fokeman 2nd Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJune Tabor - Aqaba | I'm pretty sure that this is an error. It should have been 12TS449 I don't know how the P snuck into the equation. There is no other example of the 12TPS prefix and even on the back of the sleeve it was 12TS449.
Fokeman 29th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumIan Matthews - Some Days You Eat The Bear And Some Days The Bear Eats You | Although there are promo versions of this LP. It did come out as a stock copy on the same catalogue number and with the same tracks. We don't need to do separate listings for Promos and Stock copies if they have the same information.
The B which is found in brackets after the catalogue number is not necessarily part of the catalogue number as it is not found on the sleeve and indeed, the letter is not consistent. It is sometimes seen with a Y in this place.

Fokeman 29th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumColosseum - Daughter Of Time | I wonder if the final two numbers at the end of the matrix code are year codes?
Fokeman 27th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumColosseum - Daughter Of Time | Can you check this. Mine is DM 87205 A 2 /82 S
Fokeman 26th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumLeaf Hound - Growers Of Mushroom | Track B4 misspelled - should read "Sawdust Caesar", as it did on the original.
Fokeman 24th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Renbourn - Sir Jonalot Of Merrie Englandes Musykthyng And Oye Grene Knyghte | This is completely wrong...
It's a Double LP for starters! Being a mix of "Sir John Alot of Merrie Englandes..." and "Faro Annie"
Now corrected.
Fokeman 24th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRoy Wood - The Roy Wood Story | Correct inner sleeves also exist with black ink printing of the same details.
Fokeman 22nd Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRichard And Linda Thompson - Pour Down Like Silver | Dargai is an instrumental piece. Lots of Scottish tunes exist with the name because the Scottish Highlander Regiment was involved in a battle at Dargai during the Indian Wars. It is now a town in Pakistan. This tune was composed by RT. Therefore the credits are correct.
Tunes exist by Wallace, James Scott Skinner and several others, with the same name. There is also a famous bagpipe tune called "The Heights Of Dargai".
Fokeman 19th Dec 2022 | | CD SingleThe Rogers Sisters - Why Won't You | This appears to be on the Too Pure label rather than "Pure Records"
Fokeman 17th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumPiute Pete And His Country Cousins - Square Dances | I suppose the 1949 date relates to the slightly earlier release of the 78 rpm 12" records which contributed to the two sides playing at 33 1/3 rpm
Fokeman 11th Dec 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumMiss Toni Fisher - The Big Hurt | This was not the same Signet label as the Peggy Seeger record, which was issued several years before Wayne Shanklin created the label here.
Fokeman 2nd Dec 2022 | | CD AlbumRichard Shindell - Sparrows Point | ReviewThis is one of those recordings you never tire of. I think I found my first copy in a library sale about twenty years ago. I played it over and over in the car and grew to love every song. The first track is a stand-out brilliant song, dealing with the anger and bitterness of a break-up, asking that question that we all when someone leaves us. Are you happy now? Did your life get better now that I'm out of your life?
Another great song is all about buying a truck (a Kenworth) and thinking it's going to make you happy forever because it has all the style and paintjob you've ever dreamed of. Those are just two though, and every one is its own little bit of genius.
I've since bought it again so that I can enjoy it again - I lost the old copy years ago but remembered how much it meant to me then. I was not disappointed!

Fokeman 26th Nov 2022 | | 78 RPMArmand Haas - Angelus Pour Le Temps De Paques / Va Zi Bihan (Ma Petite Maison) | Compare this lettering with the lettering used on 78s produced by Le Chant Du Monde who were working with Mouez Breiz at this stage.
This particular record is good for seeing the similarities in print.
Fokeman 25th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumColosseum - Daughter Of Time | First issue French swirl label now uploaded.
Fokeman 24th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumColosseum - Daughter Of Time | This is a cut & shut. The French issue had a French label not a German label. I'll put my French label up tomorrow...
Fokeman 22nd Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRare Bird - Rare Bird | I changed the date from Nov 1969 to December 10th because Gail Coulson who was with the label in a senior position for most of the life of the company specifically noted the date of this - the first Charisma LP. This is stated in Mark Jones' excellent book - The History of the Charisma & B&C labels.
Fokeman 20th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRare Bird - Rare Bird | Gail Coulson states December 10th 1969 as the date of release of this LP.
Fokeman 18th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumScullion - Scullion | Oddly, the single released from this LP was "The Fruitsmelling Shop" one word whereas here it is "The Fruit Smelling Shop".
