Fokeman 28th Dec 2021 | | CD AlbumConnie Dover - If Ever I Return | Apart from all the other links between the musicians on this record, Phil Cunningham had an early relationship with the band Wolfstone and recorded on some of their albums. Here he is joined with his former Wolfstone bandmate, Duncan Chisholm.

Fokeman 28th Dec 2021 | | CD AlbumConnie Dover - Somebody | There's a web of friendships here. Manus Lunny & Phil Cunningham worked together on LPs for Topic. Aly Bain works extensively with Phil on their duo records and Hogmanay shows on TV. Christy played with Boys Of The Lough for a short while with Aly Bain.

Fokeman 28th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumE. F. Band - Deep Cut | Thanks for everyone's input. I came across this group on the Metal For Muthas LP which was one of the first LPs I ever bought. They're odd in that they only issued 3 LPs and each one was specifically issued in a different country; Sweden, Germany & Belgium. It's odd that they didn't get signed up by a bigger label who would finance an issue across more than one country.
Yes, JamesTrash, it's clear that you're right, despite it being a Swedish pressing, it must have been imported by the UK distributor who otherwise released UK pressings using the same Bullet label.

Fokeman 22nd Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumTom Paley - Folk Songs From The Southern Appalachian Mountains | When I asked the great man himself to sign this, he was one of the kindest and gentlest men I ever met.
Fokeman 21st Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFr. John Glackin - Looking Back (Memories In Song) | The pressing codes indicate a Decca Custom pressing in 1967. Pressed in the USA.
Fokeman 19th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumAttila The Stockbroker - Radio Rap! | Indeed, it seems that even Cherry Red considered this a 12" 45rpm single - hence the 12 Cherry 82 as the catalogue number.

Fokeman 19th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Rose - Boys Will Be Boys | The lyric insert suggests "Burn Me Blind" is a track on the LP?
[Now corrected...]

Fokeman 19th Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumE. F. Band - Deep Cut | Everything about this suggests that it's a Swedish issue.
Fokeman 3rd Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Blue Note Jazz Band - Farewell To The Ship | What explains the confusion about the name is that the band are collectively also known as "The Blue Notes" by their friends and fans.
Fokeman 3rd Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMotörhead - Motörhead | I suspect that is better now?
Fokeman 2nd Dec 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMotörhead - Motörhead | Am I the only one who sees the first image upside down when clicked?

Fokeman 28th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDave Burland, Tony Capstick And Dick Gaughan - Songs of Ewan MacColl | One of the few times MacColl had his name spelled correctly on record.
Fokeman 28th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Folk Favourites | Several errors including "Coorie Doon" rather than "Corrie Doon" for the lovely miner's lullaby by Matt McGinn.

Coorie Doon the day...
It was Derek Brimstone not Derrick and Stan Kelly wrote the mucky kid not Kelley.
Fokeman 20th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRush - A Show Of Hands | Original sticker which was probably removed causing the damage on the other cover image.
Fokeman 14th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPierret - Comme La Chair Et L'Ongle | Some of our viewers may be interested to note that the production company which produced this LP is "Micocoulier" which is the French name for the "European Nettle Tree" or "Mediterranean Hackberry". That's not the kind of information that you get on every record-based website, is it!
Fokeman 12th Nov 2021 | | 12" SingleDavid Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire) | What's the point of having separate countries if we lump them all in Europe? They are clearly different so why don't we list the French variant under France????
Fokeman 5th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRichard Thompson - Strict Tempo! | As you say, JJ, Thompson's father was a scottish policeman and had a stack of Jimmy Shand 78s. He sings about this in in his song "Don't sit on my Jimmy Shands".
Fokeman 3rd Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumTaste - On The Boards | This is definitely a German pressing and German printed sleeve but I'm pretty sure it was bought in France and it even has some text printed in French. Was there a separate French issue as well. My label is actually a slightly later label than the issue with the same number in the German section, or at least it is slightly different. With a different logo size and a printed label direct onto the plastic rather than what looks like a paper label.
Fokeman 26th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Swedish Fly Girls | Pretty sure it is Linda Peters on track A4 or Linda Thompson as she later became.
Fokeman 24th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumClannad - Clannad | Michael Hanley should, of course, be Mick Hanly or Michael Hanly. Clannad won the National Song Contest in 1973 which gave them the 1st prize to have this disc recorded and released by Philips. They did not stay with Philips for long although Philips did issue another album by them in 1982 - Crann Ull, an album which was almost immediately issued by Tara.

Fokeman 15th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumGeoff Stephenson - Geoff Stephenson At The Organ Of Kitchen Bros. Garage, Diss | It's the least you could ask from any car dealership!
Fokeman 10th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJudas Priest - Stained Class | The silver (or white?) lettering cover was never commercially available. It was a mock up of the cover before release. It accompanied the white label test pressing.
Fokeman 10th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumGordeanna McCulloch - Sheath And Knife | ReviewThis is one of the most sublime albums I have ever heard. There is something so pure and authentic and beautiful about Gordeanna (pronounced Gordeena not Gordy-anna) McCulloch's voice that you cannot help be enthralled by it. I say authentic because it is possible to turn scots song into something only for the front parlour, something cleaned up and gentle. The music on this album is beautifully produced but sounds just like the music produced around the fires of a traveller caravan. The instruments are carefully arranged with fiddle, concertina, lowland pipes (a gentle sounding bagpipe far removed from the stridency of the highland pipes), tasteful acoustic guitar and the purest scots voice of Gordeanna McCulloch. Each song is a pearl with beautiful melodies even when not accompanied, her voice rings true. She hits every note with precision and sings with a craft that she has worked on for many years.
I cannot recommend this album highly enough. I should perhaps add a note of caution. If what you seek from this is Andy Stewart singing "Donald Where's Yer Trousers" then you will be sadly disappointed. If you don't like Scotch whisky because it's too strong or the waters of Loch Rannoch because they're too wet, then you may not like this record. But then what would you like that is pure?

Fokeman 9th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBrass Monkey [Folk] - See How It Runs | One of these songs was written by Thomas Hardy. Track A1 was also inspired by part of a Thomas Hardy novel.
George was Gabriel Oak's sheepdog in "Far From The Madding Crowd" and he had a young sheepdog son who made the great mistake of taking the whole flock of Gabriel Oak's sheep off the edge of a cliff. He was very efficient and took the whole damned lot, every last sheep off the cliff before Oak managed to stop him. Another tale of monumental tragedy.

Fokeman 6th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBridget St. John - Ask Me No Questions | Does anyone know who Ric Sanders is here? I'm assuming that it is not the 1952 born fiddle playing member of Fairport? He would have been 17 at the time and a violin player rather than a guitarist?

Fokeman 30th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFairport Convention - Unhalfbricking | According to Richard Thompson this came out in May 1969 but he may be wrong.

Fokeman 28th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCymanfa Ganu - Eisteddfod Y Barri A'r Fro 1968 | You're missing a trick Hawkmarty. It's got to be one of the best TV series ever. Absolutely cult viewing. I could watch it again and again all the way through. Just brilliant writing and hilarious burlesque characters. You really should watch it.
btw, there wasn't a video clip but I added it to help you get it...
