GEMSMFAN 19th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumQuarterflash - Girl In The WInd | this has a release date of 11-21-91. 1990 is the copyright, but check image 675187 (lower right). Japanese releases usually include the Release Date on back of obi or inlay.

GEMSMFAN 14th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beach Boys / Jan And Dean - The Beach Boys Vs. Jan And Dean: The Greatest Hits 15 | This was released back before there were any official "Beach Boys" Capitol CD's.
What surfaced on several CD's from the odd labels were the BB's Hite Morgan studio
recordings. Note there are several "Morgan" compositions... instrumentals, of course.
Not sure, if the Jan & Dean recordings were the ones released on Liberty...
|
GEMSMFAN 13th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumPatty Loveless - Dreamin' My Dreams | not a U.S. release... the EPC prefix is not U.S. Epic
the U.S. release is "EK 94481" on "Epic / Jahaza"
|
GEMSMFAN 13th Feb 2015 | | Music MemorabiliaElectric Light Orchestra - Eldorado Tour | isn't it "Eldorado"?
|
GEMSMFAN 11th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - TV Land Presents Favorite TV Theme Songs | all of these are by the original artists, although not all are the versions used in the shows.
Some were re-recorded for singles/albums at the same time that the shows debuted. Others, the TV versions had inferior sound. Television was broadcasted in mono at the time, so the greatest sound wasn't needed.
Track 25 "Happy Days" was used during the end credits, while Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" was used at the shows' beginning. Pratt & McClain recorded a new version (different lyrics, also by Gimbel/Fox), which became the beginning theme. It was credited to "Pratt & McClain with Brotherlove".
|
GEMSMFAN 8th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumBobby Vinton - Bobby Vinton's Greatest Hits | this is a U.S. release, not International
can someone understand.. the EK prefix in the catalog number, was for U.S. Epic compact discs (followed by a 5-digit number... i.e. EK xxxxx
.... in Europe and elsewhere, EPC was used or no prefix and the catalog number was 6-digits, space and a 2, i.e. "xxxxxx 2"

GEMSMFAN 2nd Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumSmokey Robinson And The Miracles - Great Songs And Performances That Inspired The Motown 25th Anniversary Television Special | I realize you bought this under the new number, but I would've stuck with the original catalog number and original release date... 1987, since that was how this was manufactured. The new number only is applied to the back of the case. The spines, disc, etc. all don't have the change. The new number should be an unlinked alternate. This is the same as calling a commercial release (with bar code), a "promo" merely because the manufacturer stickered it as such. The change is just because the Label changed owners. The info of this really belongs in "Notes". If you replace the case (say, if it gets damaged), it would be like an original...

GEMSMFAN 1st Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Out Of The Blue | original release back inlay used (doesn't show bonus tracks, nor does it have the current Label or catalog number).
|
GEMSMFAN 31st Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumThe McCoys - Hang On Sloopy: The Best Of The McCoys | with the "ZK" prefix, the label here would be "Epic Associated / Legacy", RPFiller??

GEMSMFAN 25th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Super Hits Of The '70s: Have A Nice Day, Vol. 5 | @ henry29 & The_Vinyl_Junkie: mine are also individually jewel cased. the cardboard long box was the outer packaging that ALL U.S. CD's were packaged in for security and most people threw them away. ...and any CD's that didn't come with them, were packaged in similar clear plastic packs that were heat sealed or stapled together. Some stores had their own special security case which was unlocked at the counter. Import CD's were usually locked in display cases and you got a salesperson to give you the CD's.
Actually, the record industry was in one way helping record stores. Since LP's were slowly on their way out, the approx. 5½ x 12¼ box allowed stores to use their existing record bins to display the then new CD format, by splitting the bins.
Europe, Japan and almost everywhere else. New furniture had to be ordered to store the little jewel cases.
.... Everyone remember the LIFT system? I'm sure that was widely used in shops in Europe... empty CD cases displayed.. CD's at the counter in a large filing drawer....

GEMSMFAN 24th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumMountain - Over The Top | do the discs have their own catalog numbers? possibly CK 57168 and CK 57169?
Just noticed that they do. I saw images on another database.

same release on cassette in the UK.
|
GEMSMFAN 15th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumCéline Dion - Let's Talk About Love | doesn't look like a Canadian CD... the catalog number certainly isn't... looks more like Europe to me. Canada follows the U.S. catalog numbers... had letter prefixes in 1997.
If your CD has LC: anywhere.. it's definitely not Canadian.. as Europe used Label Codes.
|
GEMSMFAN 14th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumJohnny Mathis - Johnny's Greatest Hits | the correct Title on this would be, "Johnny's Greatest Hits".
|
GEMSMFAN 14th Jan 2015 | | CD Album*Nsync, Britney Spears - Your #1 Requests... And More! | I've noticed, it's not easy popping out the clear CD trays without cracking them... so I scan the back paperwork through the case. The jewel cases with clear trays, are of a different kind.
|
GEMSMFAN 12th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumPaul McCartney - Tug Of War | Record Collector: definitely agree... "Take It Away" is a great upbeat song.. remember the video with Ringo on drums
|
GEMSMFAN 11th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Rockabilly Stars, Volume 3 | AL prefix sounds like a printed matrix... this isn't a catalog number... usually the prefix has a "C", not an "L". If the reverse side is BL, you submitted a printed matrix.
|
GEMSMFAN 11th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumPaul McCartney - Tug Of War | In 1996, this album was re-released in the U.S. as: Parlophone (Capitol) CDP 7 46057.
|
GEMSMFAN 11th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumPaul McCartney - Pipes Of Peace | In 1989, this album was re-released in the U.S. by Capitol as: CDP 7 46018 2.
|
GEMSMFAN 11th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumPaul McCartney - Pipes Of Peace | Wasn't this released on CBS first? Here in the U.S., Both "Tug Of War" and "Pipes of Peace" were released on Columbia in "1982" and "1984" respectably.
The reissues were released in 1996 on Capitol/Parlophone.
|
GEMSMFAN 10th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Getaway People - Turnpike Diaries | I saw a U.S. copy on eBay with photos (unfortunately, the disc image is blurry) and there is small print running around the outside rim... are you sure the number isn't printed there?
please check the inner CD ring (matrix) visible probably from the silver playing side for the CPTP number.
I see that the number you submitted is printed under the logo, but... if it's in the matrix.. that is NOT the catalog number also. CPTP is an odd prefix and 100564 is a 6-digit number with CBS using 5-digit with only a 2 letter prefix.
|
GEMSMFAN 7th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Getaway People - Turnpike Diaries | I think catalog number should be CK 63624.
The bar code that was provided clearly indicates that, as 63624 is part of that number.
http://www.discogs.com/Getaway-People-The-Turnpike-Diaries/release/2630166
CPTP 100564 is the printed number in ( ) under the catalog number on the CD, and that is usually the CD matrix in the center ring.
