keebrev 26th Jul 2020 | | Classical ItemRenata Tebaldi With The Orchestra And Chorus Of The Academia Di Santa Cecilia, Rome - Madame Butterfly (Highlights) | Record and inner sleeve are made in England, cover is printed in the USA.
In the Vinyl Album World there are several RICHMOND records, all made in Canada and some USA made.
So correct me if I'm wrong about the Country entry.
Never heard of it before, clearly a Decca recording (ARL 1331 and 1332)

keebrev 28th Jul 2019 | | Classical ItemMarianne Schech, Lorenz Fehenberger - Mascagni, Cavalliera Rusticana | The same record as 32 055 NL, but now sung in Italian. The cat# is also a sticker and the record has a Variable Grade groove , quite unique in the 32xxx NL series. In the runout is 3 4 0 0 8 stamped, so the original cat# could be this under the sticker.
With 4: 56 and 3:29 record time not really a Extended Play.
Extracts from the 10" 17 009 LPE record

keebrev 14th Apr 2019 | | Classical ItemMainzer Kammerorchester - Italiaanse Barokconcerten | A bit curios this sleeve...the red "stereo" in the cartouche was used by DGG in the period 1959 - 1965. Later the red of stereo disappears. The 2831 002 7 digit sub cat# indicates (and the DG label without tulips) the issued period after 1969, as the date on the inner sleeve reveals: 30/71.

keebrev 11th Feb 2019 | | Classical ItemBamberger Symphoniker - Grieg | JJ, your comment about the recording date (source?) let me to take a sharp look again to the date in the runout. And indeed, if you look under and certain angle the "3" is a "9". So the date is 26.9.1952. My apologize for this error.
DGG started their production of "variable micrograde 78" records in July 1950, and their 33 1/3 microgroove records (Philips' minigroove) in late 1951. So the confusion is easily made.
Later 78 rpm's has N 78 in a retangular box and "variable grade" in the banner. The oldest 33 1/3 records have "LP 33 1/3" in the banner.
So I was surprised by the late date (or the early type of banner) to see on this record. More likely was the "variable grade" banner.

keebrev 1st Feb 2019 | | Classical ItemBamberger Symphoniker - Grieg | Sadly, I only have this record.
Date in dead wax: 26.3.52, quite late for a 78 rpm. In this case, you should expected a vinyl record.

keebrev 9th Nov 2017 | | Classical ItemNetherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra - Swan Lake, Ballet In 4 Acts, Op. 20 | When I entered the cat # I hesitated between 10BB... or 1OBB.., see the cat# on the side of the box. On the record it's 10BB..., as you can see the difference between Op. 20 on the label. Well, I assume that's the correct one.
On the Decca Classical (Philips Stuart) I found this set as >H025, recorded on 20-22 Dec 1972, 4-9 May, 12, 13&27-29 Sep 1973 At the AVRO Studio, Hilversum, Holland.
Issued as SPC21101-3 on Feb 1974 and as Decca 10BB168-70 Aug 1974.

Actually, it' s not Dutch but German. It's made in Holland. That's what you get when you live between two major countries :)
|
keebrev 10th Oct 2017 | | Classical ItemAlfred Brendel - Beethoven: "Hammerklavier" Sonata And Sonata Op. 78 | @LaurenceD.
The small tiny letters makes it for me clear, made for the UK market.
Normally the text at the bottom is about "This modern record can be played.....etc. in German and English.
Nevertheless, if you add a record the first question is:
"First choose the country the record is from ", and not which country it's exported to.
The whole problem could be solved by adding a extra field (or cell) for the destination of the record, in this case UK.
Or, if the country is the country where the record is issued, the country where the record is made. I can imagine that's a hell of a job (no I,m not DOOM thinking :)
I added a record, made in Holland for the German speaking market (Germany, Austria and a very small part of Belgium), so the country is "Europe"?
It's easier to say "Country = Netherlands" "Destination=Europe" or "International"
|
keebrev 9th Oct 2017 | | Classical ItemAlfred Brendel - Beethoven: "Hammerklavier" Sonata And Sonata Op. 78 | Is the country correct? If you add a record the first line is: "First choose the country the record is from ". The label (and the rear of the cover) is "Made in Holland".
|
keebrev 30th Sep 2017 | | Classical ItemBerliner Philharmoniker, Rafael Kubelik - Water Music Suite | I suggest to look at the label; is it Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft it is DGG, and is it Deutsche Grammophon it's DG, issued after 1969. And yes of coarse, there will be doubles. I've got several DG records in DGG covers, but is it a problem?
The country is normally Germany, and certainly after 1980 ( when Philips took over he last shares of Siemens) it became International.
Don't make it too difficult, there are no can of worms, only challenges :)
By the way: the album no. is SLPM 138 864, or 138 864 SLPM, not only the number.
S= stereo, L= company => Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, P= pvc record M= 12" record
|
keebrev 30th Sep 2017 | | Classical ItemBerliner Philharmoniker, Rafael Kubelik - Water Music Suite | This record is recorded in march 1963 and is presumably issued the same year, so it would be the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, not Deutsche Grammophon who released this record.
Deutsche Grammophon was established after the merge with Philips (PPI)at the end of 1971 -begin 1972 ... into Polygram.
So DGG wasn't a Gesellschaft mit beschanker Haftung any more and was a part of Polydor International :)
Only in the home country DGG was still be used... according to "The State of the Art... 100 years of Deutsche Grammophon. For export issues they used DG.
The worm in this can is the DG logo without the tulips in the rim, it was introduced end '60, for new records. All old records kept their original six digital cat # numbers and in January 1970 the new seven digit cat# (25xx xxx and 27xx xxx for DG ) was introduced.
Some older records were in the seventies reissued with the new rim label and their origin six digital cat#.

Exported to the Netherlands by CapiLux, a Photo and recordshop for a bargain price of ƒ 6,95!
|
keebrev 25th Sep 2017 | | Classical ItemPhiladelphia Orchestra, Eugene Ormandy - Carmina Burana | Early stereo records are in facto hardly to find. 12" the most, of coarse. 10" records you see them now and then, hidden between the massive 12 inches, but in stereo.....The change you win a super prize is greater than to find a stereo 10" record :) But it happens, and no, I haven't win a price... (yes, my wife....:)
More commonly are the 7" stereo records (Living stereo.......RCA) and Philips too, also in the budget series like "Klassiek Verzoek Programma" or "Klassieke Klankjuwelen - Classical Favourites - Musikalische Edelsteinen" series, although scare.
Philips used this HiFi-Stereo logo too on his radios....see the Swedish B5S12A and look at the right hand side of the tuning knob. It lights up (with the Philips logo) when you turn the radio on...
These plum labels are very aggressive....you see plum through the sleeve on the outside: Philips 409 082 AE
