LaurenceD SUBS ● 30th Aug 2020		CD Album Various Artists - Assault The Vaults: Rare Australian Cover Versions Of The Brothers Gibb	I am not aware of any Bee Gees recordings of these songs; perhaps a few demos exist, someone with more expertise would know. As you listen to these recordings, you definitely can hear various Gibb brothers providing backing vocals on many of them.

No mention of this item, but I see that releases 79 & 80 are mentioned in the Record Finder column in the March 1951 issue. So this is probably from 1950 or 1951.

I don't want to be too hard on Mark, but to describe him as a singer would be quite charitable... My favorite tracks are A6 (has whistling instead of singing) and B6 (instrumental). And then there is track B2: "Are They Gonna Shoot God?" [YouTube Video]

The address for this label (3703 N. 7th St., Phoenix AZ) was also used by the Ramco and Old Timer labels in the late 1950s.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 18th Aug 2020		Classical Item Berliner Philharmoniker, Riccardo Mutti - Bruckner: Symphony No. 4	Bruckner revised this symphony several times between 1874 and 1888. Based on the included notes and the movement descriptions, I believe that this is a performance of the so-called 1878-1880 edition from Leopold Nowak.

This item was in print for a number of years and there are versions with varying covers and labels, but all with the same cat#. My cover has the date 7/61 on the back lower right.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 4th Aug 2020		CD Album Jeff Beck Group - Rough And Ready	The mixes for this CD as well as for the equivalent 'Orange' album CD are quite different from the original LPs. For one thing, Jeff's guitar sounds much more up front. This forum post gives a pretty good description. I don't possess the Iconoclassic releases, but I'm told that they are more faithful to the sound of the original releases.
LaurenceD SUBS ● 2nd Aug 2020		Vinyl Album Merv Griffin - Merv Griffin's Dance Party	From Billboard May 8, 1961 article p.7 "Carlton To Release Three Album Lines With Special Deals": The label is releasing this week a "Charanga" LP with Merv Griffin ... Griffin will plug the album on his New York TV show and offer the "Charanga" set to his fans for only $2 by mail. Merv's "Charanga" single (Carlton 545) spent 4 weeks on the Billboard charts, peaking at #69. It looks like that was not enough to rescue this LP from obscurity...
