LaurenceD SUBS 27th Jun 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumEnnio Morricone - Exorcist II: The Heretic (Original Soundtrack) | Added back cover scan with track listing on a sticker. The sticker covered the original track listing, which was in the incorrect order, and can be seen on earlier pressings.
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Jun 2018 | | Classical ItemTamás Vásáry - Chopin: Nocturnes Nr. 11-20 | Note that on the DG releases from around this period, the accents on Tamás name are 'a-grave' instead of 'a-acute'.
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMDodo Marmarosa Trio - Bopmatism / Trade Winds | Tentatively dating this to 1948 based on the BB article about Dial's 75-cent series: "Dial Incorporates"
By the way, scroll up to the front cover to see who Vic Damone was endorsing for president :-)
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jun 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Selections From The Original Motion Picture Soudtrack "The Woman In Red" | The labels on some pressings (such as mine) list track A3 as "It's More Then You".
LaurenceD SUBS 30th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumMarlene Dietrich - Marlene Dietrich's Berlin | Pictured on the front you can see the cover of the 1965 German release, but with the Polydor logo airbrushed out.
LaurenceD SUBS 29th May 2018 | | 78 RPMJohnny Lee Wills And His Boys - Memories Of You Dear / Milk Cow Blues | I had a little trouble finding this one due to the different name variation, so I modified his earlier releases with the "Johnny" spelling and linked them back together.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th May 2018 | | Classical ItemJan Adamus, Palais Camerata - Schwarzenberg'sche Hausmusik aus den fürstlichen Archiven: Oboenkonzerte von Carlo Besozzi | Unable to date this one, except that based on the booklet notes it has to be 1997 or later. It also has no barcode. I wonder if this disc was offered to guests at the Hotel im Palais Schwarzenburg; the last part of the booklet describes the amenities of the hotel.
LaurenceD SUBS 27th May 2018 | | 78 RPMHelix High School Green And Silver Band - Americans We / Crosley March | Helix High is located in La Mesa, California. Daniel Lewis, band director from 1951-1959, passed away in July of 2017.
Composer Henry Fillmore died Dec 7, 1956. Perhaps this disc was recorded as a tribute.
LaurenceD SUBS 27th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumRoosevelt Sykes - Roosevelt Sykes Sings The Blues | Track B5 is shown on the cover as "Hup Dupe Do"
LaurenceD SUBS 27th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Violinaires - Live The Right Way | Added some missing scans and composer credits. I was hesitant to buy this at the thrift shop due to its condition; good thing I did though, its a wonderful album.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th May 2018 | | 78 RPMDizzy Gillespie Plays Johnny Richards Conducts - Alone Together / These Are The Things I Love | The 8 sides mentioned in Billboard turned up in January 1951 packaged as a 10" LP (DL 3013) and, perhaps a bit later, in an album of 45s (FS-31, discs numbered 140-143). The 78 rpm album omitted disc 140. The other 78 rpm discs seem to have been sold separately, but I have not been able to positively confirm that.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th May 2018 | | Classical ItemRadu Lupu, Szymon Goldberg - Mozart: Sonatas For Piano And Violin Volume Two | These recordings first appeared on a UK Decca 6-lp set (Decca 13 BB 207-212), ca. 1975-76. Released in the U.S. as three volumes, 2 discs each, they maintained the side numbers of the larger set, hence the sides 5-8 in this volume.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Capitol Single Record Release 616 | Anyone out there know anything about these 'Single Record Release' albums, or how many different ones were made? I've done a bit of poking around, found nothing so far.
[edit] to answer my own question, I have found examples ranging to April 1968, so that would imply a large number. Although many of them include singles spanning a 2-week period.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Blaze | Posted scans from a promo copy, which included a press insert dated Jan 1990.
BTW, artist Bonnie Sheridan is better known as Bonnie Bramlett (now linked).
LaurenceD SUBS 6th May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumDave Van Ronk - FolkSinger | Added back cover and label scans. Note that the sides are flipped versus the current listing, and the only composer credit shown is for "Chicken Is Nice". JohnBuckWLD, did your track information come from a later release? Or perhaps from that other site...
LaurenceD SUBS 1st May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumKen Hamilton - Ken Hamilton Sings | On the label, the composer credit is "Traditional" for B2 "Come On Chi Chi Let's Go Back". This LP was probably released sometime around 1969.
LaurenceD SUBS 1st May 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumTommy Roe - We Can Make Music | The cover on the Capitol pressing is the same, except for the additional "ST-93359" on the spine.
The labels add the Kerr/Peel composer credits for "Evergreen" which are absent on some of the regular issues.
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Apr 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumLes McCann Ltd. - Beaux J. Pooboo | The second release of this LP, in a standard album cover. The first release (LS 86025, ca. Oct 1965) had a gatefold cover with a pop-up feature. As far as I can tell, both releases contain the same tracks.
Based on Billboard and ARSA dates for neighboring Limelight releases, I am estimating this came out sometime in early 1966.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Apr 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Bond - Ten Little Bottles | Yet another record where the sides designations differ between cover and labels. In this case it appears that Capitol was to blame, because regular Starday releases have labels that coincide with the cover.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Apr 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumPat Thomas - Jazz Patterns | The side 1 & 2 designations differ between the cover and labels. Given this runout info:
- side 1: KSLP 10110-1
- side 2: KSLP 10109-1
I assume that an error was made regarding the labels and have entered the tracks per the cover.
Aside from that, I really like this album. Pat can really swing; I guess that I would describe her style as reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan, also reminding me a bit of Della Reese. The backing band and their arrangements are terrific; a shame that there is no information given about them.
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Apr 2018 | | 78 RPMJo Stafford - Ask Me No Questions / On The Outgoing Tide | The stock copy labels credit The Starlighters and Paul Weston, and show the full B-side title "On The Outgoing Tide". I reckon we can fill in this info, along with the composer credits, after someone comes up with some additional scans.

LaurenceD SUBS 13th Apr 2018 | | 78 RPMRosemary Clooney - Happy Birthday, My Darling | Turns out that there are no releases for brother or son. I updated the notes in the label biography.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Apr 2018 | | Classical ItemProf. Kraus - Bach: Toccata Und Fuge, Dorische Toccata, Fantasie | I think that the organist may be Eberhard Kraus.
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Apr 2018 | | Cassette AlbumThe Eldorados - Crazy Little Mama | This cassette release does not specify which tracks feature The Magnificents; they are A5 and B5.
LaurenceD SUBS 20th Mar 2018 | | Classical ItemProtschka, Kohler, Chamber Orchestra Of Dusseldorf - Kurt Weill's Der Jasager | Early pressings have yellow labels and full color sleeve with liner notes on the back. On my later pressing, the same liner notes are on the front of the sleeve, and the back is blank.
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Mar 2018 | | 78 RPMJan Rubini - I Hear You Calling Me / Hejre Kati / Je Vous Aime Beaucoup | Violinist Jan Rubini introduces each tune with a short monologue. In the first intro, he also introduces his piano accompanist. I can't quite make out the name, which sounds like "Vasily Gilsa". BTW Jan Rubini is the father of (composer/arranger/keyboardist) Michel Rubini.
