LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Home Grown '84 | This is the last edition in the KGB series of Home Grown LPs.
The Beat Farmers' You Lost A Gold Mine is the same song as Goldmine on the Tales Of The New West LP, but this is a different recording.
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Home Grown | This is the first of the KGB "Home Grown" compilations, featuring local artists performing songs about the San Diego area. I think that copies sold for $1.01 with the proceeds going to charity. These LPs sold pretty well, and as a result they can be found in nearly every budget bin in the county. You can read a bit more about the Home Grown series here.
Runout info: KGB <A> RE-1 2S112073AP WB / KGB <B> RE-1 2S112073AP WB
Note that the recording of Chula Vista originally appeared on a single (Highland CW-10) credited to Possum, coupled with "The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati". I'm still looking for one of those!

LaurenceD SUBS 4th Jan 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBurt Bacharach - Songs From Ross Hunter's Production Of "Lost Horizon" | I compared this with the Bell LP, and it sounds to me like the same recordings. Note that song #11 in the booklet (Reprise for "If I Could Go Back") is not included on the LP, and it was cut from the film as well. Also, there is a printed letter from Ross Hunter that came with some copies.
There are no artists credits listed, but I will dig around and see if I can add them in the comments. Some actors sang their own songs, and others had the songs dubbed for them.
Wondering if I should post the lyrics from the booklet; there are 18 pages in all.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Dec 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumRoy Orbison - Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson | On the cover, track A1 is listed as (I'd Be) A Legend In Time.
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Nov 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumHansson & Karlsson - Monument | I designated this as a stereo LP because there seems to have been a small number of monaural copies issued as well, though I would like to get a better look at one to be sure.
LaurenceD SUBS 23rd Nov 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumGeorges Auric - Bonjour Tristesse | There are six separate tracks on each side, but no track titles are given on the labels or cover.
In addition to the Bonjour Tristesse song on side one, Juliette Greco sings briefly near the end of the final theme.

LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2014 | | 78 RPMLee Roy - Man On The Beat / B. O. Plenty | Added images from a promo copy. The labels look darker than normal, they're actually gray rather than white in this instance.
LaurenceD SUBS 14th Sep 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Cell Block Seven - Mama Don't Allow It / Tin Roof Blues | I don't possess any other green ones myself, so I don't know. The one other Columbia promo that I found in the same batch (Pete Rugolo, 40222) has a white label.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Aug 2014 | | 78 RPMEthel Davenport - Leaning On The Lord / I Will Wait Till My Change Come | Jimmy Blythe, Jr. Trio: Sammy Price [as Jimmy Blythe, Jr.], piano; Al Casey, guitar; Ernest Hill, bass; Herbert Cowans, drums
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPM"Dusty" Fletcher - Open The Door, Richard! | Dusty Fletcher had been performing the "Open The Door, Richard" vaudeville routine for many years before Jack McVea released the first recorded version on Black & White in September of 1946, hence the "By the Originator" tag on this release.
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Orioles - Crying In The Chapel / Don't You Think I Ought To Know | Added upgraded label scans, with a nod to coveboy.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPMHarley Luse And His Blue Ridge Mountain Boys - Red Wing / Rainbow | This is one of a series of four square dance records (1009-1012) that could be purchased separately, I believe. The earliest reference that I could find was in a square dance newsletter from April 1947, but the release date might be as early as 1946.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Sepia Tones - Boogie #1 / Sophisticated Blues | That's an appropriate song title for the first Juke Box release :-)
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPMHank Thompson And His Brazos Valley Boys - (I've Got A) Humpty Dumpty Heart / Today | Most copies that I've seen have the Americana designation, unlike mine. We could change the label to Americana; I'm undecided...
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Jun 2014 | | 78 RPMBarbara Cameron - An Invitation To Love | I only have one disc from this album, but I was able to gather enough information to list the entire set, so here it is. Maybe someone else has some other sides to add.
These 78 rpm King albums seem to be kind of scarce; It's tough to find details about the releases, or how many albums were released. There is some info about Barbara Cameron, and a mention of this album here.
LaurenceD SUBS 27th Jun 2014 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Grieving My Heart Out For You | This seems to be an acetate or test pressing, on thin, flexible vinyl-like material. The matrix numbers match those from the B-side of RCA Victor 20-1868. The back side has a silent groove with "RCA" stamped in the dead wax.
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Jun 2014 | | 78 RPMKorla Pandit - They Say (Tonight You Belong To Me) / Remembering | According to a June 2 1951 Billboard article, Mills Music complained that the words and music of "Tonight You Belong To Me" were altered on this release, and suggested that it be re-recorded, which Vita refused to do. The article also states that the song in question was released in March.
LaurenceD SUBS 31st May 2014 | | 78 RPMSam Hinton - Old Man Atom (Talking Atomic Blues) / Long John | Apparently there were complaints that Old Man Atom was pro-communist, and stations were reluctant to play it, so Columbia pulled the record. See this page for more information.
The Sep 2 1950 Billboard issue is full of 'anti-Red' editorials and lists of organizations designated as subversive.
LaurenceD SUBS 31st May 2014 | | 78 RPMSun Valley Trio - It Happened In Sun Valley / The Hokey Pokey | The Sun Valley Trio issued a version of The Hokey Pokey on 4 Star in August 1950. I'm guessing that this record appeared around that time.
LaurenceD SUBS 31st May 2014 | | 78 RPMTimmie Rogers - Fla-Ga-La-Pa / Good Whiskey (And A Bad Woman) | A newer recording of Fla-Ga-La-Pa; Timmie had previously issued the song on Excelsior 136 in 1945.
LaurenceD SUBS 21st May 2014 | | 78 RPMRosemary Clooney - Happy Birthday, My Darling | 45stalker, your label is from a different release. I created a GIB-8 entry and moved your image there.
I also augmented the list of releases in the notes. Does anyone know the cat# for the "Dear Brother" release? I've yet to see a copy.
LaurenceD SUBS 26th Apr 2014 | | 78 RPMBenny Goodman - Remember / Walk, Jennie, Walk | Gene Krupa misspelled as G. Grupa on the A-side (image 442346).
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMRoy Milton And His Solid Senders - Big Fat Mama / Thrill Me | For whatever reason, this record was listed in Billboard's Advance Race Record Releases three separate times. I set this entry's date to the first occurrence.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMLowell Fulson's Combo - Everyday I Have The Blues / Rocking After Midnight | While Gérard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia of the Blues dates this at 7/49, Billboard and Galen Gart's ARLD suggest mid-1950.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMAl "Jazzbo" Collins - Jack And The Beanstalk / Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs | Al had not yet signed a contract with Brunswick when he recorded Little Red Riding Hood for them. When he later found out that they were planning a follow-up release ("Cinderella") with Steve Allen as artist, he signed with Capitol and recorded these sides.

LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMCyril Smith [singer] - The Old Sow Song / With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm | ARLD dates this release as sometime in 1949.
I am guessing that this is the actor Cyril Edward Bruce-Smith (1892–1963). It seems that he released these same two songs for the Enterprise label in 1947 (#259); I don't know if these are the same recordings. His first recordings of these songs appeared on a Rudy Vallée record in 1937 (Bluebird B-7078).
Update: seems that my guess was incorrect. This is a different Cyril Smith (c.1903-1950); I have included his obit from Billboard, Jan 21 1950. I don't know much more about him beyond what is in that snippet.
I have also disambiguated him as [singer] to separate him from the pianoforte player.

LaurenceD SUBS 1st Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMFelix Figueroa - Pico And Sepulveda (The Street Song) / She Of The Black Coffee Eyes | This is really Freddy Martin, of course, whose band at that time was in residence at the Ambassador Hotel in Hollywood. He opened up his own record shop in the hotel, then launched his Ambassador label to release some of his own recordings (under various pseudonyms) along with those of other artists.
These sides were later re-released in 1947 on an Enterprise-distributed Ambassador label with the catalog number 275.
Los Angeles residents may recall "Pico And Sepulveda" as becoming the unofficial theme song for FM station KMET around 1970. I suspect that Barrett Hansen may have had something to do with that.
