In print from 1964! Phew, we could get a fair swag of Warner label designs on this entry. The ones I have supplied are the "Burbank" labels that were in use between '73 and '76.

I'll do a full set of scans for this - the first record I bought with my own money - and the last one I bought today. Couldn't turn down a pristine copy for $5 just for the sake of nostalgia. I bet this one sounds better than all the re-issues that just invaded the shops.

All Record Store Day releases are international and released simultaneously worldwide through a network of independent bricks and mortar stores. They are all international and always have been. You can visit the Record Store Day website to find out more but these limited run global releases.

Could we have some clarity on how to deal with the MPL label. The ad on this page clearly shows MPL as the label. There is no mention of Parlophone on this page anywhere except for where we have in our wisdom decided to make that the label. It seems this is the case on the site with all UK McCartney/Wings releases from the mid 70's which were all released on MPL. Am I missing something here as it seems odd to me why we list these albums differently to elsewhere on the net.

Should we have a separate entry for the original 1971 Apple release. The label images supplied by alan45 are of that release and not this later reissue on Parlophone?

Should the label here be changed to MPL? The MPL logo is on the back cover and the labels clearly indicate MPL is the label as well. There is no mention of Parlophone anywhere on the product yet for some reason we have it listed as a Parlophone release. Can anyone tell me why this is the case?

Neil Young - Harvest
mowdamowda you are right the original release did not come with the lyric sheet but I think, as I was gifted this album, in the mid to late 80's Australian reissues started to include it. My older version (see the four hidden pics on the page) had no lyric sheet. I am not a huge Neil Young fan so I'm not across all the details but someone may know more about when it was first included on our pressings.

I'll send a correction chrisb. The Mods may contact you for approval of the changes. I'm not sure how that works but I'll send one in and see what happens.

This is what I have sent in chrisb.
"Hello Mods,
There are links on the entry page here that prove Captured Tracks is an independent USA based label. Therefore chrisb and myself believe we should treat this the same as we treat other indie labels and list this as a USA release. Notes can be made on individual re-releases to record minor differences such as vinyl colour, countries of release as they appear. Modern indie labels seem to have a habit of releasing the same cat# album in multiple varieties changing each short production slightly every time. See the link on the page to the X-ray-spex album as example of this and also as a template for how this release should be dealt with moving forward."
Cheers,
Lee

The Lemon Twigs - A Dream Is All We Know
The Captured Tracks label is to my mind what would be classified as a USA based independent label. It is very similar to Creation or Rough Trade in the UK in that regard. The usual policy is that labels like this one are usually listed as from the label's country of origin and in this case that would be the USA. This record of mine was bought in Australia but is still listed as a USA release because of the way we deal with independent labels on the site.
The other thing to note about the linked entry is that it is also similar in that it has multiple versions with different coloured vinyl and different barcodes for each. This approach avoids the need to make a new entry every time the label represses in a slightly different way. Perhaps we should list releases on Captured Tracks as USA releases as we do with other similar modern independent labels? What do people think (...and I don't mean about the election!)?

Hey Magic, the DVDs/CDs in this set all have a number 1-3 after the cat# and after a quick poke around the net this 82876755892 cat# was never used again. If the CD you have has a 3 at the end of the cat# (like the one above) then it was made for this set. Could someone have switched the CDs in the case between now and way back in 2005? That's my guess anyway.

Blondie - Parallel Lines
Apparently, there's supposed to be one of each which were pressed by an employee as keepsakes. So they were never officially released under this cat# in any form. As we don't have an option to use a term like unofficial we have to call everything unofficial a bootleg. The word to me is interchangeable with unofficial but some people seem to think it implies far more sinister activities.
Now as bootlegging goes I'd say this really is the mildest of misdemeanors and is certainly nothing like running a sweatshop in Indonesia pumping out the No.1 albums of the day. However, they are both unsanctioned use of a copyrighted product.
As for the colours, they were previously used in 1979 on this release. Maybe we could relabel these images Unofficial One Off Factory Pressing and leave them here?

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Kicking Against The Pricks
Hello Phil, The 1992 Bad Seeds release of Henry's Dream has Liberation on the spine. That's the only one in my collection with any label reference on the spine the others are all void like this one. I see this in the same way I see modern vinyl reissues such as those by Rhino for example. Where the cat# is a Rhino cat# but the label may be Elektra, Atlantic, Argo and a facsimile of that label is used to produce the product.
All that aside the other site (you know who) lists at least some these as Liberation - Mute which to my mind is possibly the best fit.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Kicking Against The Pricks
Hi Magic, these Cartel (you know 4AD, Mute, Beggars Banquet etc) produced global independent releases are tricky. The UK release of this has the usual Mute cat# pattern CD STUMM 28 this release uses a, now try to stay with me, typical Festival Records cat# D19633. In Australia Festival for most of 90's were the distributor Liberation and Mushroom records. Michael Gudinski was a founder of both labels and because of that connection the roster of artists sometimes appeared on both labels depending on when products were released then in 1999 Mushroom engulfed Liberation before amalgamating with Festival to form Festival Mushroom Records.
Are you still with me? My theory is that the Festival Records cat# D19633 was designated to the Liberation Label for distribution in Australia. Therefore the label should be Liberation as it is the label producing the product and putting it in the market. It is listed on the other site both ways. As Liberation - Mute for D 30443 for the 1990 release and the reverse for this D19633 1992 release.
It's messy but we can change the date of release to Aug 1992 on the strength of the links provided. The global independents of the Cartel are always difficult as they were really close to being facsimile labels before that became all the rage. I'll see if anyone chimes in with some better grasp of how to approach this and let it lie for while.

PhilMH I agree that this entry is correct for the official black vinyl release and should stay but the images here do not match and should be removed. A separate entry needs to be created for the bootleg images with the pirate flag label to confirm the status of the images currently and incorrectly attributed to this entry.

I have been going through the Bad Seeds Australian CDs and this one has me a bit stumped. Is the primary label Mushroom, Liberation or Mute? All three logos are prominent on the packaging. The rest of the 90s Bad Seeds Australian catalogue is usually on Liberation - Mute but this one is different. What do people think? ...and I don't mean in general.

The Velvet Underground And Nico - The Velvet Underground And Nico
In 2000 this CD was reissued in Argentina using the 1996 copyright. It also has the same cat#, label and barcode. In 1996 another release of this CD appeared in Israel with the same cat#, label and barcode. As PhilMH pointed out below this cat# was also listed as released in Australia and that CD would most likely have been made somewhere in the EU. So, this should be listed as international solely on the basis of two links to the Israeli and Argentinian releases provided above.
I know that there is also a separate 1996 Italian release with matching data but we deal with those differently don't we? Confused? I'm not surprised.

Both of the discs on display here are unofficial releases of the Australian issue of this album. The details as listed on the page are correct for the official black vinyl release but these one off factory pressings were never available commercially. The blue album pictured on this page is not for sale on Discogs. The yellow vinyl is also unofficial. Quite interesting as versions of this album go but they are not official and need to be listed as bootlegs.

Cyndi Lauper - Original Album Classics
Hmm...Phil, I see now but nevertheless both you and I know that this series is and has been widely officially available in this country and most likely many others outside the EU. Thanks for the tip on the double up I've sorted that out but it happened when I was trying to put the link in. I had three attempts before giving up. I'm not going to rush out and buy this either but I have admit Cyndi sure can sing. It's just what she sings that's not my bag. The exception to the rule is her version of Funnel Of Love but I think I like nearly every version of that song.

Hi PhilMH, this is available at the Australian version of the global superstore that is named after a river. In stock and ready to go (I tried to insert a link but it just didn't seem to want to work). How many copies do you want? The EU issue is a bugbear for those of us outside the EU with EU made products that were officially released in other countries. Do we lie and pretend it's only released in the EU or run the gauntlet of trying to have something made international. The second option is a lot more difficult to achieve so I am reluctantly forced to lie. Never mind though as long as the listings are consistent is probably the main thing.

This was released and is still available in Australia and I'd imagine a fair chunk of the rest of the world. Very much the same as the rest of the Original Album Classics series. Why is this series always listed as from the EU when from the outset this series has had worldwide distribution. Do I have to lie when entering my CDs from the series and pretend that they are imports that weren't released here?

Blur - Blur
Yes candiman they were both released on the same date February the 10th 1997. The double album may have been made for audiophiles that like more space between the grooves for better sound quality. The album was made in the CD era and there's 55min of music here which fits nicely on a CD but compressing that onto one LP will cause sound quality issues. I suppose the double LP was produced to placate discerning buyers but why release a poorer quality single LP version at all is the question.

@gregs45s Hi from me and nice to see your writing. We must have been both traveling the same digital spaceways simultaneously. Before you posted your comment I was checking this out and also going to suggest the year change but got a bit suspicious when I couldn't actually find a 1985 release anywhere. So I just looked up the release date and it all made sense. Then I bounced back to this page and saw your comment. Snap. Good to see you're still banging away and putting the worlds right.

Bangles - Different Light
I agree with gregs45s in that the CD OldMod67 has is the original release. The album, however, was released in January 1986 so if the date is amended perhaps add the month. The single of Manic Monday was released on Dec. 23rd 1985 and the album followed the next month. New year releases can be tricky.
