Vera Lynn - The Love Of My Life / What A Day We'll Have
The b-side only credits Jack Fishman as the composer, but the sheet music also credits Joe Henderson.

Ronald Taylor - Columbia Twelve-Inch Records In The United Kingdom 1906-1930
Glad to say I’ve now acquired this book. Rather odd printing error in which two pages got mixed up.

Layton And Johnstone - Moon Song / Put A Little Springtime
No, the titles are correct, although the B-side's full title is "Put A Little Springtime (In the Winter of Their Lives)". I couldn't find any trace of the record when searching online, but saw a reference to the A-side in an old newspaper cutting on Newspapers.com, with the catalogue number DB 1107. The CLPGS Columbia DB series book confirms both titles on that disc. Not sure why the disc was entered here with the catalogue number "BD." I've requested the catalogue number be corrected (would be nice if we could do these ourselves). [Corrected. mod]

Seems a bit of an odd addition? No catalogue number and a BD. prefix for a Columbia record? Appears to be DB 1107.

Reggie Goff - Song Of The Rain (Prisionero Del Mar) / Carnival Time
Interesting to see The Beaux and the Belles on record. They appeared on Ray's a Laugh, a show which had just started at the time this record came out, and were actually The Keynotes under another name.

David Whitfield - Answer Me / Dance, Gypsy, Dance
From what I can tell, the re-recorded version of this didn't actually get pressed on the UK 78. Presumably, it was just for radio and promotional use.

Percy Faith - The Song From Moulin Rouge (Where Is My Heart) / Swedish Rhapsody (Midsummer Vigil)
Funny how this was #1 in America but didn't chart in the UK, where Mantovani had the only hit version.

Dickie Valentine - Christmas Alphabet / Where Are You Tonight?
According to the Daily Herald (dated Thursday, 15 December 1955), this had sold over 200,000 copies at that point.

Frankie Laine - In The Wee Small Hours / You're A Character, Dear
This was his first commercially issued 78, and features his first recordings, cut in 1945. Prague Frank's discography of Frankie Laine says the tracks were recorded in New York, although this link says the location was Hollywood. See Gold Seal website.

Marie Benson appears to have still been working into at least March 1953, so I expect she is on this record.

Vera Lynn - May I Have The Next Romance With You? / All The Time
Thanks for adding the photos. Good to know there are at least two copies in existence!

I wonder who wrote the b-side. I think Crown often used songs they had the rights to on their b-sides, so it was probably one of those. I can’t trace it.

@vinyl_junkie Thanks. There’s a copy on eBay, but without the sleeve or leaflet. I wondered how one would find out the answers now!

Vera Lynn - Home Sweet Home / Ma Curly Headed Baby
It makes more sense if this was amongst a batch of old recordings being issued in 1950.

You reminded me of “Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White” / “When I Grow Too Old To Dream”. The Vera Lynn discography by Tony Middleton lists those matrix numbers as unissued, with accompaniment by Roland Shaw. Yet the above record is on eBay now, and I can see that the 78 has those same matrix numbers as in the discography. The accompaniment on the 78 is by Woolf Phillips, who accompanied those same songs on the Vera Lynn Concert album at around the same time that the matrix numbers date from. It therefore seems likely that the masters used for this 78 were just taken from the live album, perhaps faded out before the applause. Woolf Phillips didn’t usually back Vera for her studio recordings, but did for that LP. It would be nice if Vera had made studio recordings of those two songs, but I doubt it was the case. I’d be interested to hear how the recordings were edited for the 78.

What’s odder is that it appears to be her only Danish release, although there could be others we don’t have listed here yet.

Vera Lynn - May I Have The Next Romance With You? / All The Time
I’ve never seen a copy of this record, though I’m told it does exist. It’s featured in discography listings for Vera Lynn and the Crown label. I wonder if it’s because she switched to Rex shortly afterwards. Her first Rex recordings were made the following month, although she only cut two 78s for them. So maybe this one only had limited circulation.

Still seems odd - the recordings would have sounded quite old by 1950. I think some of Vera’s recordings were issued more than once on 78, but not years later?
